Maybe it's a city thug or private school thing or both. We are a family that cares about quality of clothes our children wear so we don't do cartoon character shirts like lots of boys I see. I dress them in things I think look good and we've always had tons of compliments on their style. Diff strokes. But I would say that at some point you just have I do what you want and not worry about what everyone else is doing.

If you want to compare it to character shirts...a boy in uggs is like a boy in Hello Kitty. Is Hello Kitty only for girls? No, but it is intended for girls and putting Hello Kitty on a boy doesn't make it masculine.

There is one little boy at our preschool who has a mother that dresses him in uggs, long cable knit cardigans, skinny jeans, etc. And with his flowy hair and baby face, he is often mistaken for a girl. I have to believe that wears on a kid for a while. I'm all for letting kid's make their own choices, but these aren't the kid's choices.

I bought my daughter uggs and my son North Face boots. Just as easy to put on.

My two boys wear uggs and have since they were very little. I love them for the winter and they love wearing them because they're warm. And actually they don't wear hello kitty but perhaps I should get them both a t shirt just to run some of y'all the wrong way. Cheers!

We live in Connecticut (used to live in DC) and our 7 year old DS has Uggs. He loves them. The first time he wore them to school, some of his classmates started to tease that they were for girls & he replied that they could laugh all they want but they're warm & comfortable and now 90% of the boys in his class are wearing them as well.

You guys are wrong. Uggs aren't intended for girls only. Hello Kitty? How is that an analogy? Your boys can be homophobes and wear Disney clothes. Mine will wear whatever is quality, comfortable, and fashionable.

His 8 year old sister has a pair just like them so I think of them as 'girl' shoes, although they certainly are not 'girly' in any way but also not 'masculine' in any way either..I think they are pretty unisex in style, personally, but I've only noticed girls wearing them. He's in first grade, if that matters. Will he be cool in his Ugg boots or will other kids tell him he's wearing 'girl's shoes'? Also, DH thinks that he MUST wear his boots tucked in his pants, not out like the girls' do as this is what makes the boots 'girly'. ??? I think that if a first grade boy MUST wear anything in a certain way or else it will be 'girly', then that's a bad sign (but also think that he's not going to like wearing his boots inside his pants and that this will be an issue)

not a life threatening issue, I know, but.... advice??!!

Start him out wearing them out-and-about...not at school. Give him a chance to do what little boys do (scuff em, soil em, get em dirty and raggedy and looking like he just grabbed them out of a trash bin) then let him wear them to school. The other 1st grade boys may not like the style but they will respect the dirt and filth.

Uggs are not fashionable on anyone.
And when you put little boys in them, they look like little girls.
I'm guessing the people arguing for uggs on boys have young boys that haven't developed their own opinion about what they wear yet.

Just spent a week in NYC. Never once did I see any boys or men in UGG boots. Sorry but they are girly.

What makes you think that boys who want to wear boys clothing (or parents who dress their boys in boys clothing) are homophobes?

Yes, worn with a sweater with yoga pants. He'll look lovely.

I nannied a boy probably 8 years ago who wore uggs as house shoes. His mother and I (and certainly not father) never took him out of the house in them.

For what it's worth, I think uggs should only be worn as slippers.
