Jewish holiday in MCPS

The problem wasn't with the OP or others who were asking. It's pretty obvious why MCPS gives two of the many Jewish holidays off- the first day of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The problem was with the posters who expressed that it's a Christian nation and those who still complained about having a day off. I could see their point more except there are so many days off in MCPS.

Where did anybody say it's a "Christian nation"? Where did anybody "complain about having a day off"? Cites, please. I read the whole thread and didn't see either of these.

One thing I gotta say, though, is there is an obvious troll trying to stir up bad feelings between Christians and Jews - see this thread from just a day or two ago, where she gets shown up for the nasty troll she is: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/193999.page. Oh yeah, and the woman who says she's jewish as she mocks communion (last week's "what is the equivalent of Yom Kippur?" thread in the general forum, if you want to see her for yourself). Can we just ditch these two (single?) troll(s) and get back to respecting each other?

16:46 again. OK, I just saw 10/5 10:53, who does talk about Christian values. But she also talks about egg hunts at Christmas, which is totally ignorant about Christianity, too.

I don't know what to make of her except ... troll? As I posted above, there are some nasty pieces of work trolling about religion on DCUM in the past few days. Somebody else (not me) outed the troll on the Potomac School thread. I wish we could get rid of these trolling beyatches, but until that day comes, I'd take a lot of what's said here with a grain of salt.

Most of the jewish kids attend private school.
Interesting that a small minority has managed to close schools for 2 days

There is no data to support that most of the jewish kids attend private school? What ever gave you that idea?

Yeah..MCPS is famous for its responsive policies so I am sure when the 9.1% suggested the day off they immediately complied. (I am completely kidding of course). It is all logistics and finances..what percent of the teachers would be taking off. No one has come up with that number and that is the key.

That is such BS.

The Jewish privates are mainly Conservative. You won't find Reform Jews sending their kids there. They'll attend the local public. And although I don't have the data, I bet there are a hell of a lot more Reform Jews than Conservative or Orthodox.

My Reform friends are the biggest advocates of public ed.

How can anyone "out" the troll when this site is anonymous. I would say to all those who like naming names -BE CAREFUL. Did the person who "outed the troll" sign his/her name?

the private jewish school in Montgomery county is large. Also, the jewish minority is well represented in the big 3 and all other fancy privates.

10% of population does not translate into 10% of school age children attending public

Read this very short thread: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/193999.page. The second (2nd) poster on the thread outed the troll, and other posters through the 2-3 pages continued to call the troll. It's stupid to ask for the 2nd poster's name (and she's not me) and there are other stupid things about your post but I'll stop there. Yes, there is a religion troll.

It's not just about the students! As has been pointed out other times in this thread, part of the concern is teacher absences. I'm sure our elementary school (in the downcounty consortium) is less than 9.1% Jewish, BUT there are a bunch of Jewish teachers at the school.

Also, I disagree about the large numbers in private school. Every single child I know at our temple is in MCPS.

Nobody revealed any names, of anybody else or themselves. Several people called another poster a "troll" which, obviously, is not an actual name. I feel stupid even typing this.

I grew up in South FL. We had Jewish holidays off. If anything, I looked at it as a form of diversity growing up.

Where I work, teachers do not give HW/schedule tests on high holy days for a variety of faiths.
