(Jews) Montgomery County, Maryland 83,800 9.1% a good chunk
Most of the jewish kids attend private school. Interesting that a small minority has managed to close schools for 2 days
That is such BS. The Jewish privates are mainly Conservative. You won't find Reform Jews sending their kids there. They'll attend the local public. And although I don't have the data, I bet there are a hell of a lot more Reform Jews than Conservative or Orthodox. My Reform friends are the biggest advocates of public ed.
the private jewish school in Montgomery county is large. Also, the jewish minority is well represented in the big 3 and all other fancy privates. 10% of population does not translate into 10% of school age children attending public
It's not just about the students! As has been pointed out other times in this thread, part of the concern is teacher absences. I'm sure our elementary school (in the downcounty consortium) is less than 9.1% Jewish, BUT there are a bunch of Jewish teachers at the school. Also, I disagree about the large numbers in private school. Every single child I know at our temple is in MCPS.
