I doubt Maria ever confided in her. When you are that high-class and grow up with servants in your house all the time. The relationship is formal and cordial and servants are treated as servants with rules on how to talk to the masters.

Arnold wasn't attracted to the maid nor in love with her. He just chose her because she was easily accessible. His life is very high profile, the maid was always there, in and out of their home, no one would every ask questions. If he didn't have to maintain his privacy, he would've had a different looking mistress. The opportunity was there so he took it.

I read that the housekeeper was a self-hating Hispanic who worshiped white people. I guess this and Michael Jackson are proof you can find success in America even if you hate yourself.
