Hi,
I received a letter in the mail that my son got in the GT pool based on his test scores. I need to provide my consent and also complete the parent assessment. Does anyone know how much weight this has and how elaborate I need to be if I want him to make it to the GT program? Also, does the teacher needs to provide an assessment too? And if so, who will coordinate that and can I see what assessment she gives? Thanks! |
The least amount of weight is given to the parent portion. The teacher is given a sigs by the search teacher. After decisions are made, you can request to look at your child's file. |
Wow, that is pretty competitive stuff to provide to get into a day of GT in LCPS !! |

Reviving this thread because CogAT scores came in the 3rd quarter report card.
DD got 92 Verbal, 98 NonVerbal, 99 Quantitative Do I understand correctly that this automatically puts her "in poole" because she as a minimum of 2 sub scores 97 or above? Obviously I know her NNAT is important also, but just curious if I am understanding the poole criteria correctly. TIA. |

Hi,
My DS got 93 percentile in COGAT.. Is he still eligible to enter GT Pool? |
Yes. As the rules currently stand, she is in the pool. |

This is the current info, from the LCPS website, which was updated February 2016.
How is the third grade pool of candidates for Futura program determined? The third grade pool is determined through a review of the second grade CogAT and third grade NNAT test results. The benchmark score is 97%. Third grade students not in the screening pool and fourth through eighth graders may be screened by referral. Administrators, teachers, or parents/guardians may submit a referral. This info is slightly changed from previous years, where it specifically mentioned scoring 97% or higher on 2 of the 3 sections of the COGAT. So, 09:24, I'd actually contact the SEARCH teacher and ask for specifics. |
| Thanks all. I found a letter sent to this year's third grade with the same terminology (needing 2 sub scores 97 or higher.) |
It does not say 2 of 3 sections of COGAT should have minimum score of 97% |
Yes, hence why I wrote the sentence bold above: The website used to say that. Now it does not. |
Thanks. I misunderstood your statement. My son's score Verbal-115, Quants-150, Nonverbal -120, Composite - 138 Overall - Percentile - 99 Age Stanine - 9 What is the next step I need to do? |
| But the letter sent to current 3rd graders still said it. |
Is he in 2nd? You can't do anything until he takes the NNAT in fall of 3rd. They send pool letters in spring of 3rd. |
Yes, the wording on the website is not quite clear. If I had a second grader right now, I'd ask the Search teacher for clarification. |

My 3rd grade got the pool letter back in march and we're currently waiting for the decision letter.
His cogat was 95%, 99%, 98%... over all 98% and 132. NNAT 98%. BTW what is 98% in NNAT means? How do we find out the actual score? I'll be appreciate if anyone knows how to calculate the % to score. I wish for the best for my child but sadly I have a negative feeling about the decision. He gets good grades but he distract the class by playing with his buddies and brought a note from teacher many times therefore I don't think his teacher will recommend him to futura. We only filled out sigs and did not turned in any additional work. Good luck to all of the 3rd grade children and the parents! |
