| The man trains all those years for a job that only a select few ever get a chance to actually do. He's then asked to be the Commander of the final mission ever. Not sure how I would ever as a spouse not want my husband to live out that dream. Kids or not I'd be sending my husband. |
The decision would be his to make, so the question is really would he choose to go? |

This is not a biggie. It is just a regular day of work for him.
His attitude to it is not the same as the medias. Ask him why he goes to work? |
| Page 7(?) and I'm still trying to figure out how this is any of our business. |
| Children, me, husband, career. No god or country here. |
| Has he even said anything publicly about whether or not he would go? |
no more nor less than half the opinion-seeking questions on this forum |
| Asking someone about a restaurant they've been to, or wondering where to get great countertops or parenting questions seems like a reasonable sharing of opinions. A bunch of strangers arguing about what decisions a man whose wife has just been shot should make about his life's career is nasty. IT'S NONE OF OUR BUSINESS! How many of you speculating about this will actually face this specific situation in your lifetime? Have some respect and leave these poor people alone. |
| He's going. |
You are going to receive a lot of snarky answers and probably 3rd degree flaming, so I will try to be nice. Her husband is an intelligent man and I am sure he thought of all the things that could happen but this is his job and his decision. I do not know, and I doubt that you know, what part his wife played in this decision. You would be furious if someone began second-guessing your major life choices and rightly so. He knows what is best for his family and you know what is best for your family. Truly, it is only their business and it does not matter what you would do because this is not your life experience or your choice. |
| Yay! F you Jared Loughner. |
that's really sad, coming from a military wife |

Beautiful prayer from Giffords' rabbi and shared at National Prayer Breakfast:
"In the name of God, our God of Israel: "May Michael, God's angel messenger of compassion watch over your right side. "May Gabriel, God's angel messenger of strength and courage, be on your left." And before you, guiding your path, Uriel, God's angel of light." And behind you, supporting you, stands Raphael, God's angel of healing." And over your head, surrounding you, is the presence of the divine." |
| Thrilled to hear he's going. I hope it's a great mission! |

I would say it's not fair to ask us crusty old Dcum'ers since we would all be willingly blown bodily out of a rocket to get away from our spouse and kids for a few days. Okay maybe not right after DH had been shot in the head...but some of us have jobs where we've taken an oath to do it. And being an astronaut is more than just job, isn't it?
It is his duty. |
