Really! And your dear husband is the authority on all that is Black American. Amazing. Tell your husband that he speaks for all. LOL

Oh for Pete's sake - I'm the one who wrote the post above. Let me clarify - I was not writing for any other black person - only for my husband "HE thinks it's a joke" - those were his actual words. He is no more an authority than anyone else would be, but that is his opinion. I am sure there are plenty of AA that celebrate Kwanzaa. I can't speak to that. My DH doesn't and he does think it's a joke - his words. That was truly my only point. I certainly wasn't typing that as therefore it must be true for everyone - if you thought that, then you read waaay too much into things.

Also, the OP asked "Anyone actually celebrate Kwanzaa?" So, by mentioning that her DH does not, the post in question here is just answering the original question.

I read your post exactly as you described. the "Amazed" poster seems to have gone overboard on this one.

No, not really. I've answered this thread twice- first when I said I didn't know anyone who celebrated Kwanzaa, and then after I found some people who said they do. I didn't post the feelings of the black people about Kwanzaa of the black people I know. The original question isn't asking "How does the one black person you know feel about Kwanzaa?," it's asking if anyone celebrates it.

Anyone know if slaves celebrated Christmas or something else? And no, I'm not asking if they got presents.

The people who bought slaves celebrated it, as did the people who transported them to America

Somehow I'm not surprised that the DH of a woman who isn't black doesn't celebrate Kwaanza.

The religion celebrates the Seven Principles of Blackness, so it would be really pretty hilarious if a white person were to celebrate it.

He was convicted of torturing a woman in his group and then people celebrate he invented? That is pretty sick.

Not too far off from the Mormons.

Or the "prophet" mohammed and his 9yr old bride.

FYI--The Anacostia Museum held a huge Kwanzaa celebration today. It was well attended by many families from all over the DMV area.
