Your holier-than-thou attitude is one of the reasons there is so much vitriol toward Federal employees. I do not believe that you work under extreme demands and conditions, and unattainable quotas. Bull. You chose Fed govt. because you know that you do not have what it takes to compete in the real world where there are extreme demands and consitions and unattainable quotas. The pay freeze wil be welcome after fed. govt employees are RIFed. Don't you worry that little overworked brain of yours because John Boehner & Co. are going to cut govt. expenditures and it won't be the defense budget that is cut. |
Ummmmmm . . . what do you think the defense budget is? GOVERNMENT SALARIES, you idiot! |
Jet Airplanes, new ships, research into new weapons, war materiel, (yes, it is materiel, not material), $500.00 toilet seats. The Defense budget allocation for salaries of civilian employees probably doesnt go over 20%. Much of the Defense budget is hidden in other legislation. |

Looks like you are wrong. Defense budget CUT! |
Sounds just like my agency. Many extra hours worked, no overtime, no credit hours, and no bonus. On the Blackberry 24/7. International travel that is not fun, is quite frequent, and for which there is no extra compensation. |
Who needs us! I'm sure the govt can stop prosecuting sex offenders, funding equipment (like bulletproof vests) for law enforcement and providing medical expenses and assistn |
Salried employees do not get paid overtime, only hourly or non managment. |
NP here. Government Attorneys are not subject to RIFs, FYI. THAT is why they work for the government. And I have to chime in here, the vitriol is geared toward those who are braggarts about job security - on our taxpayer dime! Newsflash: there are far more taxpayers than government workers. I have worked in conjunction with many agencies, and the observation that many government workers are lazy is not entirely inaccurate, sorry to say. Please stop perpetuating what you want so badly to be a myth. |
Please people, direct your vitriol toward the real culprits -greedy companies and corporations and our elected leaders at the Hill who pass laws that kill jobs for Americans in order to advance their careers. Over the last thirty years all of the them whether Democrat or Republican have sold out Americans for greedy corporations to leave our country at set up shop in third world countries where they can pay slave wages and become disgusting wealthy. Our jobs are now in China, Mexico, and India. The rich now own our media so now we are spoon fed propaganda through corporate media whore outlets like FOX News, the Limbaughs, Becks, O'Reiley's, Hannitys, and all these lunatics selling the same message and making Americans vote for everything against their best interest. Look at the Tea Party who went out fighting tooth and nail for the health insurance industry who take us to town with premiums and provide coverage for the healthy and then dump you when you get sick and need coverage. Why have we as tax payers become accepting of such coruption? |
Not true, PP. Government attorneys are subject to RIFs. My agency went through a RIF in 2002 and it was 135 government lawyers out of 385 total that were Riffed. No support staff or management was Riffed, only the people that carry out the bulk of the work at my agency were Riffed, the lawyers.

I am a liberal. But this notion that we can keep jobs here by outlawing outsourcing is just plain wrong. To do what you want, this is what we would have to happen: 1. We block companies from manufacturing offshore. 2. We have to block foreign companies from selling in the U.S., or else their cheaper products put our companies out of business. 3. We immediately lose the ability to sell our goods abroad, because our prices are too high. 4. The cost of what you buy in the store doubles or triples, meaning your lifestyle goes way down. Offshoring is not the cause of our problems. Manufacturing is not the high skilled job that it used to be. That is because the world has gotten better at making things. But new jobs are created for new opportunities. We can't succeed by holding on to yesterday's jobs. It's bad for everyone. My field (Internet security) didn't even exist twenty years ago, and now it is a very technical and well paid specialty. Eventually, maybe 50 or more years from now, internet security will become mostly automated and the function will fold back into the regular IT department. That's fine. It's the way things should be. |
