Does your team have trouble keeping B meet partners (NVSL)

How does the starter get the kids to false start?

A bad starter that holds the kids to long in the ready position will cause a false start often - kids will flinch, move or fall over from being tense that long.

We have never had a problem finding B meet teams, I didn't realize this was even an issue.

We swam at Chesterbrook and the parents were incredibly rude. Their kids could be overheard bad mouthing our swimmers (loudly) and the team on the whole (calling our swimmers slow, why are we swimming them, etc).

On top of that, for such a nice food their concessions were terrible - the food was disgusting and we all ended up needing to pick up dinner after the meet.

+1. Their swimmers are rude and they have an infamous starter who seems to relish inducing the youngest kids to false start. He’s been reported to no avail.

I forgot about the starter! And the food - one of our swimmers got a burger took a bite and spit it out immediately. Not sure how you mess up a burger that bad but the food was awful.

But yes on how nasty the kids were. I assume it is a coaching issue (not teaching sportsmanship) but the openly trashing our swimmers was just unreal. We were also a one and done with them.

Every summer they are searching for new partners and a lot of it was just how rotten the families were.

Doubtful it's on the coaches. usually starts with the parents.

Holling Hills, Hollin Meadows, Stratford, Parklawn, Riverside Gardens, Pinewood Lake, Mansion House, Mount Vernon Park, Little Hunting Park, Lincolnia Park, Waynewood, Hayfield Farm, Highland Park?

No. But these teams have B meets with one another.

LHP and Hollon Hills do TT together. Swim against Waynewood etc.

The Alexandria/Fort Hunt teams have B meets together, a fun relay meet, and have a large IM meet mid-summer that rotates amongst the pools each summer.

My guess is tuckahoe and Chesterbrook members posting it to generate clicks

I have never once posted a negative comment about a club, team, school, person, etc here, but today’s the day. Chesterbrook parents, kids ages 13+, and especially the coaches are the absolute worst ever. Like outwardly hateful, violent, and inappropriate always. Year after year. It’s taught and it’s embraced as part of the team culture.

We haven't swam at Tuckahoe in a few years but loved it there. The meets were fast and their officials were super nice. Can't say we interacted with their coaches at all. Won't swim at chesterbrook for the same reasons as others above.

Tuckahoe was a good partner. Their kids are nice and parents pretty nice too. Our team and swimmers weren’t caught up in the York/Hydra/Machine stuff, so I don’t dismiss the experiences of those people, but from our experience, Tuckahoe was a good team and we welcomed swimming against them even thought their swimmers generally beat the pants off of our swimmers.

I could start a separate thread if this runs off into CB and T commentary, but was wondering what others do to speed meets up beyond seeding.

For us the slowdown is waiting on the timers to write their times, put it on the board. I'd be happy to give them all two watches and keep it rolling like a PV meet. No support on that one yet from the team reps

To speed up meets - preseed and have heat and lane assignments (most teams do this now - 90%)
Combine heats when you can
Run like club meets and only collect timer sheets (do timer sheets and NOT cards) after each event
Extra officials on deck. When a DQ is being discussed back up officials step in so the meet does not have to stop.

Some pools do not do board times - I think that is crappy. Everyone wants to see the times. That means a lot to the kids.

South Run here — Old Keene Mill has this down to an art. You should reach out to them.

Ours stopped b meets as I don’t think they could get any other teams. The team rep and manager and pool manager were a nightmare to deal with and abusive to other teams.

Yup - and there was a whole thread about him doing it to 8 & unders at an A meet last summer.

I think combining heats is going to be the best option for overall speed if you don't have extra volunteers etc. It's a B meet, you can have mixed age and mixed gender heats. You can have mixed age and mixed gender at the same time.
