Wake, Bucknell, and U Richmond

Bucknell is stagnant and located in the middle of nowhere. Not at all popular in our town. Very few apply to Richmond as their biggest problem is expensive vs 2 better publics in UVA and W&M. Wake got crushed by US News recently and their appeal also took a hit. Not a lot of families in our full pay suburb rushing to pay over $95k for a school outside the top 50. Not much interest in any of them.

Thanks for the useless anecdotal data. Richmond and Wake both received a record number of apps this cycle, as they have for the previous few cycles, pushing their acceptance rates below 20 percent. Most applicants seem to care little about the US News rankings since they become focused on Pell eligible and first gen populations, and instead value small class sizes and lots of interaction with professors.

Yeah, I have no horse in the race but actually respect Wake and Richmond for not trying to turn the cargo ship to kids the USNWR ranking ring. To echo PP, applications were up at both schools and, at least at Wake, acceptance was at what I think was an all-time low (18%). Seems like whatever they are or are not doing is working.

Wake is like Tulane, BC, SMU, UMiami decent but not top 30.

Anyhoo, there are some similarities between Wake and BC

Tulane and Miami are similar to one another, bigger schools where the city is very much part of the experience.

SMU is and has always been a unique, very Texas school. TCU is its less academic little sister.

Not a huge Wake fan but the fact that it "got crushed by US News" is not a bad thing. It weeds out all of the low class, low information, low pedigree strivers who know nothing and make all decisions based on US News. These are not people whose children I want my child to go to college with as their kids are brainless lemmings who will achieve nothing. Good riddance.

UR offered generous merit to my DC. So if it checks many of your DC’s boxes, don’t count it out as too expensive.

Wake, Emory, Richmond, Tulane, Bucknell and Miami are all in the shadow of more prestigious universities. It doesn't mean they are bad schools. Go to the one that fits you. If you want southern, go to Emory, Richmond or Tulane. Big city? Tulane or Miami, maybe Emory. Isolated, go to Bucknell.

Your career results aren't going to be different no matter the college you choose. What will count for colleges all in this tier is what you put into it.

If you were half as smart as you think you are, your kids wouldn’t need to go to college at all.
