What a strange comment for no reason. Most startups fail way before a Series B raise which usually is for like $30MM+ and in fact those companies are way more discriminating in who they hire than many large companies. My own kid has a similar story to the above and the company is now going through acquisition negotiations with a large public company and my kid is going to get a huge windfall from it. |
| humanities major from SLAC has a job at Bain. had summer internship there last year, loved it, offered position. considering he got that internship offer his sophomore year via on campus recruiting, it's been a pretty effortless, stress-free process. of course had he hated it last summer, I dont know what he would have done. |
Thank you for sharing your story. Helps me and her feel less alone. Wishing your son nothing but the best. |

This is for parents with younger kids- Note that where you go to college is highly correlated with where you might end up with a job. Simply b'cos it is easier to find local internships. Of course, you can breakthrough into a different part of the country, but you have to work extra hard to get an internship there in the summers. For e.g. internships in DC area are more likely to students from VTech, JMU, UVA than internships in the midwest or the west that will look for local students. |
+1 I have a liberal arts major who was hired recently. Graduating in May. |
|
+1 my kid goes to what some DCUMs would call a "no name" LAC but it's known in its region for a strong program in her major. Best response to internship applications was in that state. |

| Ours has had a Top internship since freshman year. They’re still looking for a job- return offers were very limited for their junior year internship. They’re still looking for into Penn for PhD, so that’s likely the next move, but they’re strongly considering mastering out. |
How is that measured? |
| Regarding the SLAC graduate having trouble in the marketing area….. sorority girls can have great GPAs and be at schools with amazing communications or marketing programs. Prior experience in sales, communications or marketing, their college reputation in the area (look up moody school of communications at Texas or marketing at mccombs.) I’m sorry your daughter doesn’t have a job yet (my graduating senior took a not great one and is moving home while he gets experience to add to his resume and try again). In your particular situation racism could have occurred…but this is an area where SEC schools excel. |
