Yes, and then they give you the option of staying on the waitlist or getting off it. A lot of kids who were accepted to AOS/AET continue to stay on the TJ waitlist for bragging rights ‘I got into all 3!’

Wait pool from Rocky Run

This is to inform you that you have been placed in the Wait Pool to the 2026-2027 Freshman Class at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (THSST).
This year 2,762 qualified students were evaluated for admission to the Class of 2030 at TJHSST after meeting eligibility requirements (e.e.,g participation in honors courses, GPA of 3.5 or higher) and providing all required evaluation components.
Final admissions were based on a holistic review of these components, specifically the Student Portrait Sheet, problem-solving essay, GPA from final marks (core subjects) in 7th grade and 1st quarter marks in gth grade, and experience factors…..

Perfect GPA, got the PSE correct with detailed steps. SPS may have been the difference.

When a student who got in does not accept admission, do they pick a waitlisted student from same school or pick the top waitlisted student across all schools?
