F&&k Georgetown. Not only will they never see another dime from any of us, but I will openly disparage them at any opportunity.

Okay but it's irrational not to concede his stats were not at all competitive. Legacy doesn't give THAT much of a boost. You should have spent some of that money on SAT tutors.

If you think there werent any kids in this years admissions that scored in the 1300s then you are a fool, simply put.

I think anyone is a fool who thinks a kid with a 1300 is going to get in without top-tier connections or *very* substantial donations, none of which applied in this case.

Uhhh, my kid got into Brown with a 1320. And Brown is light years above Georgetown.

Not if they're taking kids with 1320s

Brown was test-optional until last year, so *highly* doubt the 1320 was submitted.

And if you went to a school with grade inflation, in recent years you could game your way in.

I knew this post was drag the 'not competitive' lady out of the shadows. Bless your heart. 1350 is 95th percentile, 4.1 is 99th percentile. Carrying two varsity sports on top of that is bonkers. PP's kid is more than capable of handling the mediore academics at GU. His problem was being male and white, probably.

nope. his problem was the 1350 and 4.1 weighted.

This has got to be a troll. 4.1 with a 1350 SAT barely gets you into GMU never mind Georgetown.

You’ve missed asking your son why it’s his dream school.

+1. Very few if any 9th graders - aka 14 year olds- can picture themselves in college, let alone envisioning a “dream” school. Sounds like this is OPs build up and disappointment

Going in with no expectations or low expectations is the way to go. Building up a school is a sure way to be disappointed.

Georgetown was the first school we toured with older ds. We all loved it. It started as his top choice and remained there. He got in and loves it. Too each his /her own.

As someone who knows both Georgetown and Fordham current students and grads, Georgetown is way stronger.

Legacy gets a very well qualified but otherwise unremarkable applicant in. Most straight A 1480 SAT applicants from strong high schools who play soccer and do community service don’t get into Georgetown despite being perfectly qualified. Legacy gets them in.

My wildly unhooked 1480 applicant from a strong high school who was captain of his sport and done community service got in this year.

I liked Georgetown both when I looked at it (90’s) and when my kid looked at it. However, I did not like my kid’s tour- way too crowded and impersonal.

Mid 1300's is not even close to competitive for Georgetown, legacy or not.

I know you are being flip, but you are close: the 75th percentile of GMU’s fall class had a 3.99 GPA and a 1310 SAT. PP just doesn’t want to hear that her kids stats were too low for Georgetown - legacies must meet the academic standards for legacy to be invoked at top schools. There’s just too much competition for these slots. We know that from the Harvard admissions case. My own legacy kid at Harvard had the stats and ECs but we hadn’t given the seven figure requisite amount which, interestingly, PP fails to mention having given to G’town.
Annual gift giving of small amounts doesn't t count. Instead, she has to blame and swear at the University. I’m still giving to Harvard even though they reverted daughter - which was a good thing because she just got into the law school. Don’t burn bridges, PP.

I graduated from Gtown in the 90s and just spent the weekend with my good friend from college. We were talking about my own senior’s college search and she recalled visiting Brown and Yale back in the day after she was admitted and said she didn’t like them because they were so intellectual and it turned her off. I told her about this board and how people like to talk about Georgetown negatively because it is “pre-professional”. She replied, well isn’t that what college is supposed to be? I agree with her completely. Pre-professional is great. Kids that go to Gtown are about DOING things, not sitting around thinking and philosophizing. And I think that’s great. If you want some intellectual Ivy tower then Gtown is not for you and that’s fine. And it takes nothing away from Gtown, which is a fantastic school where kids go to change the world and make real impact.

Georgetown in the 90s has literally nothing to do with this conversation. Or Yale or Brown

I don't understand your post, OP. How can you tell whether Georgtown is or isn't stronger than Fordham from your visit?

Forget Georgetown look at ND, BC, and HC. All 3 offer better collegiate experience than GU.

Mid 1300's is not even close to competitive for Georgetown, legacy or not.

I suspect PP's knowledge of college admissions is not au courant. Maybe in the olden days that was possible.
