| They’re reporting she is in stable condition which seems intentionally vague. Not good. |
| I started this thread and, for the record, am so sad this happened. My ski racing daughters set an alarm for 5 am to watch her. |
|
Vonn is a certified moron. Wtf was she allowed to hog a spot on the team. 42 and on an artifical knee and a torn acl.
So stupid. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Her hubris got in the way of common sense. |
You to watch BBC or Dutch coverage. She was screaming in pain and crying on TV. American coverage blocked it out. So stupid they let her compete. |
I think they had put a microphone on her. You could hear her taking deep breaths at the start, and if you watched the live footage you could certainly hear her screaming. I'm guessing they cut the mike for replays because it was horrible to hear. |
|
I didn’t get up early enough to watch it live, but I watched the replay broadcast from beginning to end. What a shocking crash.
Echoing a PP, Vonn’s heavy breathing was very noticeable before she started, and it seemed as if she’d been miked up, which struck me as odd. While I don’t have any desire to hear the screams of an injured person, the amount of editing happening is remarkable so far. |
Agree the US skiing statement is making it sound like a catastrophic injury, otherwise I think they'd be providing more detail. Ugh, I hate this. |
Have them tune in for the women’s slalom to watch the winningest skier of all time! Go Mikaela! |
I'm okay with them removing the audio from her mic from the crash. I don't want to hear that and I feel bad for both Vonn and anyone who heard her screams in the live broadcast. The replay on NBC this morning was heavily edited for time, but that's normal for an event like this. If they didn't, it would take hours to show, and they want to maximize how many events they can show on broadcast during the day. They didn't even show the other two crashes, one of which also resulted in an airlift -- the airlifts take a long time to clear the course and there's a lot of waiting around. I'm okay with the edit. Now, NBC cutting the boos of Vance at the opening ceremonies was shades of State TV. |
| But how about Breezy Johnson! She took home our first gold and all we wanna talk about is Lyndsay? |
I think people are thrilled for Breezy -- you should start a thread! This thread is about Vonn though. |
What we don’t know is how much was from emotional pain versus physical pain. |
Yeah, that never happened before. Veteran Olympian qualifying and being allowed to compete. Shocking. |
Oh yes, she qualified alright.....probably qualified for disability after this accident. Idiots like you are enablers that allows disasters like this to happen. She is so past her prime and has zero knees. Played a stupid game and won the stupid prize. Americans get to enjoy watching her on TV screaming in agony. So cool she "qualified". |
I like her but I agree with this. And now her injury is over shading Breezy’s win. CNN devoted about 5 minutes to Vonn’s fall then did a quick mention about Johnson’s medal at the end. |
