Lindsey Vonn

She beat all the young ones fair and square and has made the podiums I think almost all her races this season. She has earned this spot and is in a very good place to medal tomorrow. Let’s go LV.

Probably a prereq to going down a hill that fast on skis.

High level skiers have died before. At those crazy speeds it's pretty dangerous.

I'm sure the teams have health and safety controls.

She beat those skiers with two functional ACLs. This ended how anytime could have predicted it would.

New reports she had a terrifying crash. I’m sad for her and hope she is ok.

Love Lindsey, but she selfishly took a spot on the team that should have gone to a healthy skier.

And her crash changed the race for everyone who went down the hill after her.

Why is that? I know nothing about downhill skiing.

In retrospect, OP was right and this ended exactly as we might have expected.

I feel bad for Vonn but now it looks like hubris.

For those worried about her earning potential, I'm pretty sure she has a commentating job whenever she wants one. She will be fine financially.

Yay for Breezy Johnson!

Americans came first and fourth in the event already.

The clouds change, the light changes, the temperature changes, the ice changes.

Moreover they're warmed up, stretched and psyched up to go, then put on hold.

And Team USA still won!! Too bad that Von crashed and she didn’t get to finish the race, but her teammate won gold!

Yes, people get injured or make errors on runs all the time. Her US teammates finished 1st and 4th which is an extremely strong showing. Vonn had dominated the races earlier in the season and more than earned her spot.

Looks like she hit a pole in the air and it spun her a bit. Crash not even related to her knee. I hope she is okay. It looked pretty bad.

She did earn her spot. They also don't do replacements in skiing, so, she wasn't taking someone else's opportunity. If she didn't compete, the spot would have just been open. I don't know if it makes sense to compete on a ruptured ACL. Probably not a choice I would have made in her place, but, I would never be a downhill skier anyway. You have to have outsized confidence and ego to excel in this sport.

BS
She qualified fair & square! Haven’t you watched her World Cup races this season?

She must know she can’t medal in this state so why not pass the torch and be a mentor to younger skiers? Admittedly I also just generally don’t like her between dating Tiger Woods and her childish social media spat with Mikaela Shiffrin. At this point competing seems like another publicity stunt.

I agree she needs to just bow out. She's just being selfish, imo. Not only taking up another spot but another spot where maybe they can medal. She won't medal, if I had to bet.

If she wants to put her own body at risk, that's a her choice. But she's also representing the US and she doesn't have the "right" to continue in this condition.
.

You clearly haven’t watched the training runs. She’s got this.

Yeah...
