How many people in your circle of friends have died?

The bolded part. That was me at 49 a few years ago. No symptoms, went for my first routine colonoscopy and was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. If you are at or above an age for a routine screening, just do it. And if you have any family history (I did not) talk to your doctor about earlier screening.

To the OP's question - only one, a good friend from college, at 48, and it was devastating. She had many medical issues that contributed to a death that frankly shouldn't have happened if she'd received adequate care. She was hospitalized for a relatively minor issue, wasn't treated appropriately, and her body just gave out.

DH and I have both lost people in their 60s (relative for me, colleague for him) recently due to heart attacks. Otherwise it's mostly people our parents' ages (in their '80s) who are dying.

I'm 49. In my close/current circle of friends, none. But a few people from my childhood have died (mostly drug-related) and every few months, I will hear of acquaintances my age who have died (mostly cancer and other random health issues).

I have had several friends who have lost children.

I am in my 60's and in recent years mostly men in 50's and 60's have died.

2 men in 50's drug OD
3 men in 60's cancer
1 man in 50's suicide, mental illness
1 man 60's heart disease
