I have not had any friends die. My DH would have died from colon cancer if it weren't for his first colonoscopy at age 50. If you're 45 definitely go out one. A few neighbors have died from colon cancer around the same age.
The bolded part. That was me at 49 a few years ago. No symptoms, went for my first routine colonoscopy and was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. If you are at or above an age for a routine screening, just do it. And if you have any family history (I did not) talk to your doctor about earlier screening. To the OP's question - only one, a good friend from college, at 48, and it was devastating. She had many medical issues that contributed to a death that frankly shouldn't have happened if she'd received adequate care. She was hospitalized for a relatively minor issue, wasn't treated appropriately, and her body just gave out. DH and I have both lost people in their 60s (relative for me, colleague for him) recently due to heart attacks. Otherwise it's mostly people our parents' ages (in their '80s) who are dying.
