Scary and sad. Presumably kid wasn’t vaxxed, which would have helped mitigate the severity of the flu. |
The cdc is still pretty good about this, believe or not. Trump has ruined the cdc, but he hasn’t ruined this yet- https://www.cdc.gov/fluview/surveillance/usmap.html Also, wastewater scan will show what’s in your area (other than waste going into diapers (oldest and youngest)): https://data.wastewaterscan.org/ And you could signup for weekly emails from your local epidemiologist: https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/ |
| There are a lot of deaths this year from the flu. |
How many doctors have you seen in the last few weeks? |
Same and FWIW my doctor's office was not masking. 😔But I was. 😷 |
For COVID, it's not very effective, but for the flu, which spreads through droplets, it’s quite helpful. The nose is not a significant vector. |
Ahh, good to know! Thank you. |

Something else was going on. From the article: “ Ellie had been hospitalized since January 2, battling complications that included pneumonia, sepsis, internal bleeding and later blood clots and disrupted blood flow to the brain.” |
All of these things can happen from the flu. I know, it’s “just a flu.” But for some people, and that includes kids, it’s not “just a flu.” It’s the thing that triggers an insane immune response that can kill them. Once that cascade starts, it is very hard to stop, so that’s why the doctors advise prevention. |
