I just saw my doctor on Monday for a routine physical and he was wearing a mask. But he didn't have it over his nose. It bugged me the whole time - either wear or don't wear it, I don't care. But half wearing a mask is stupid.

For COVID, it's not very effective, but for the flu, which spreads through droplets, it’s quite helpful. The nose is not a significant vector.

“ Ellie had been hospitalized since January 2, battling complications that included pneumonia, sepsis, internal bleeding and later blood clots and disrupted blood flow to the brain.”

All of these things can happen from the flu. I know, it’s “just a flu.” But for some people, and that includes kids, it’s not “just a flu.” It’s the thing that triggers an insane immune response that can kill them. Once that cascade starts, it is very hard to stop, so that’s why the doctors advise prevention.
