OK…it’s my option to state you are full of shit and don’t have a clue what you are talking about…which you clearly don’t. |

I haven't read all the responses - so forgive me if this repeats anything. I think better chance at Penn. In our experience, every Duke ED was hooked with legacy and very heavy for athletic recruits. Duke simply has far more competitive athletic spots they need to fill.
Also - I know this isn't supposed to matter anymore (but I think it likely still does with essays) - or whether it is relevant for your family - but pre-SCOTUS decision Penn was a VERY VERY successful play for a large number of smart Black kids we know....and they are all happy and successful there. |
+1. This is consistent with our private. Duke ed success is mainly connected/uber affluent, legacy, and recruited athletes. Penn ed admits are a combination of legacy, super smart kids, and urm. |

Look at your specific high school data. Some high schools have a stronger or weaker placement at various colleges. At our school, more get into duke vs vanderbilt. At other schools, it's the reverse. Duke and Penn are both amazing schools but very different (urban/suburban, culture, greek, sports, freshman housing). If you dont have a hook, apply ed to the school where your kid can show the strongest fit. Fit to major, fit to school culture, the school where they can illustrate how they will be able to make an immediate impact

| My daughter picked Duke She got in rd in both. She visited and just loved the everything about Duke. She is in junior year now and has an amazing peer group. She is in Sanford school of pub pol. |
Great to hear. I know it’s early, but does she have a sense yet of what she may want to do after college? Curious to hear where a pub pol major leads these days. |
| She interned in finance and is leading towards a finance career. |
Thanks. Did Duke help her find her internship? How much quant did she add on to her Pub Pol major courses? |
Funny, I was coming to say the same thing in reverse. You definitely get a % advantage in admission ED at Duke. Everyone we know who was successful in Penn ED was hooked or Legacy. (I think they still give an edge to legacy in ED round). |
