My son need to decide where to Ed. He is public policy, political science, govt, economics. No legacy nor any other hooks.
Great ECs, 3.97 uw gpa. Where shud be for his major and to maximize his chances |
| Out of private or public? What's SAT and weighted GPA? |
| Public, weighted 4.91; sat 1520 |
| Both difficult to get into. Where does he want to go more? |
😂 no chance |

Penn arts & sciences
Duke early is all hooked and Carolinas promise |
|
Penn's EDvacceptance rate is a little higher than Duke's.
Penn also accepts more kids. Penn accepted about 1270 kids for ED and Duke 840. So there are more slots at Penn than Duke. |
| What does Naviance school data indicate? |
|
Both of these are lottery schools, and at either there is a small chance of admission. I don't think there's much of a strategic play, unless his 'great ECs' would be particularly appreciated at one school rather than the other -- but then, I suppose, he'd have a hook.
These two schools have very different vibes. Have your son put his chips on the one he likes best. |
For these reasons, Penn. |
| Penn is a difficult admit for DMV. |
| Have you visited both campuses? He should apply to the one he likes better. |
| DP. following this thread as I have a similar student with very similar stats and great EC profile. Can I throw Northwestern ED into the mix? |
I think Penn is the hardest and Duke is close. Northwestern is an easier admit (but still hard!) |
