People didn't make a stink about Sydney Sweeney, they made a stink about the normalization and glorification of eugenics. Nobody gives a f@ck about Sydney Sweeney or white sorority girls. Get a brain, and a life.

Nothing about that ad was about eugenics and you know that.

You know very well that it was. There is no such thing as good genes without bad genes. Blue eyes good...white baby voiced woman good... We know what the ad is about. You'd have to be a moron to not understand what it is about. Are you a moron?

What are you after? Should I tell my kids, of European heritage, that they can't be proud of their family and ancestors? There's Black Heritage Month, AAPC month, Hispanic Heritage month. And what, if they feel good in a similar way, that is undercutting other ethnicities? That's garbage. None of us celebrate or we all do. My kids speak the language of their family, have the traditional outfits, spend a lot of time with their family in Europe. If you have a problem with that, you are the racist.

Tell them they have good genes and get them some American eagle.

Already done. Not going to tell them that they need to live in hiding because some white people, who were not even the ethnicity as us, held slaves hundreds of years ago. Get a grip.

Ikr? And that little problem in Europe with the blue-eyed thing that was decades ago. I mean let it go already people.

Seriously. And all that birther stuff because Obama was you know.... That was so Trump's first term. Move on folks.

Why is it that we can talk about the good things of other races, but only the bad things about Europeans? That seems racist. I really don't know what you think some random Polish person had to do with American slavery. And by the numbers, black Americans have way more old white American ancestry (eg slave owner ancestry) than the average European. Yet they get a pass while people who've got nothing to do with any of this are inherently evil.

You guys really need to stop. You've lost the culture. They listened when it was reasonable but you have jumped the shark and are filled with hate.

What the heck does the Birther nonsense have to do with Europeans. That was right here in the good old USA!

Do you know where white genes come from, for the most part?

The birther thing was not about Trump's mom genes from Europe. That's not what it was about.

You're the one bringing Obama into this.

You're the one who was making ignorant claims about how racism was ancient history in this country.

The claim I'm making is that white people are the same as everyone else and should feel proud of their family and heritage.

What exactly do you mean by "proud"? Slippery concept, that. For instance, many people with Scandinavian roots find they have some Irish--meaning the captured Irish women who were taken to the nordic countries by the Vikings.

I'm saying no one should feel bad for how they look. People should be able to learn about their history and take some kind of personal pride in themselves, their families, and the countries they come from. This is true for everyone, and everyone includes white people.

I don't agree with putting value judgments on genetics. That can turn very ugly very quickly and it does. I'm not proud or not proud of my family because of their eye color.

Then apply that standard to every race.

Your race is your race. It's neither good or bad. I am glad you are proud of your family. I don't think it has anything to do with what color their eyes are. If you do, you're entitled to that opinion. And you're entitled to buy whatever jeans you want.

The “left” is not paying attention to sororities in the ultra conservative southern schools.

Well they fought to eliminate fraternities and sororities at many schools. No Rhodes scholars if you are in a frat.

Ok. Go protest outside of St Patrick's Day parades about how everyone should be ashamed.

Lol. I'm marching in the parade along with my red-headed kids. I'm not telling them they have good genes because they have auburn hair and blue eyes.

So it's okay for you and your kids but not other types of Europeans. Got it.

I think you're ignorant to suggest that racism is not still very present in this country. I don't like the way the American eagle ad campaign talks about genetics. And I'm entitled to my opinion. You do you.

I never said that. Racism very much exists in this nation, as demonstrated in this thread. But the fact that racism exists doesn't mean that white people can't feel good about their heritage in the same way everyone else does. There's nothing wrong with being white or European.

This whole thread is proof you’ve taken the bait. It’s just college women having fun.

Hahahah “libs” could not care less about these sororities. MAGA likes fantasizing that they bother us. Nope

Imagine making a fun dance video with your friends and you get used as a political tool by a bunch of old dudes. Ew.

Actually there were no libs under about Sydney or eugenics either — that whole controversy was a false flag from the right media: “libs must be upset because she is blond and blue eyed”. No one actually cared

You just refuse to engage with the genetics part of this conversation. Is there something right or good about being white as opposed to wrong or bad? If you think that, then you think that.

My really close Brazilian friend does not feel good about that heritage because of the Brazilian genes. It's the family, the people, the language, the culture, the music, the food and on and on. The day this friend starts telling me that Brazilians have the good genes and the good eye color is the day I might rethink the friendship.

Do we know that? You aren’t supposed to talk politics during sorority rush so the odds that they are all republicans are slim.

I refuse to engage because it's an absurd read of what she said:

"Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color". She then looks at the camera and adds, "My jeans are blue."

She never said she has blue eyes and blonde hair. She never talked about what genes are good or bad. The ad closes with "Sidney Sweeney has good genes." Which is a euphemism for big breasts, but you saw it as a euphemism for race-based murder. That is a demented, deranged interpretation.

If Ms Sweeney actually got in front of a camera and said, "I'm white with blonde hair and blue eyes, which means I am better than you," then I would have a problem with that. She didnt say that. The outrage is over the very suggestion that a white person could have "good genes" because European blood is somehow tainted in the liberal mind.

The ad copywriters were well aware of the jeans/genes wordplay and who it would appeal to. Stop gaslighting.

While I agree it was deliberate, pp’s argument wasn’t gaslighting. Since you don’t know what gaslighting means, you probably should avoid accusing someone of doing it.

Gaslighting is the manipulation of someone’s perception of reality. One common technique is to try to persuade the person they aren’t seeing what they think they’re seeing, especially when it comes to dogwhistles. That is precisely what PP was doing.

Since you don’t understand what gaslighting is, you should probably refrain from lecturing others about it.

No, love. The original PP may have insinuated the first pp was being deliberately obtuse, but she wasn’t trying to manipulate someone’s reality.

Were you born stupid or dropped on your head as a baby or what? Maybe refrain from posting anymore at all — you clearly lack understanding of basic concepts.

There were libs complaining. There was a whole thread on this forum, and even some posts in this thread.

Sydney Sweeney is only important to RWNJs and Gen Z. Some men may find her “hot” but she is not pretty or unique - i.e. doesn’t have long term Hollywood potential

Try harder.

I know plenty of GenZ kids who are indifferent to Sweeny’s ad and think she’s a bad actress. This GenXer agrees with them. This was a hugely successful ad! It got people talking about a mid brand selling basic jeans by a woman who can’t act. Success!

She’s only famous because she showed her tits a lot on Euphoria. She’s kind of like Gen Z’s Jamie Lee Curtis, only I doubt she will ever be nominated for an Academy Award, let alone win one in her 60s.
