AP Physics Exam scores and chances at Ivy

" and the A- doesn't help much"

Are you kidding me??

AP Physics C: Mechanics and EM is one of the hardest courses at TJ. 2 years of college level Physics condensed into 1!

A- is a GREAT score.

OP: Dont report the AP scores.

4.37 is on the low end for Ivy's

Most likely will NOT get in -even if he got a 5 on the AP.

4.2 and above is a GREAT GPA for TJ kids, however.

So look beyond Ivy's.

No.
AP physics C is two SEMESTERS of college physics in....two semesters at TJ. That is normal college pace, equivalent to one year of college physics.
Not two years.

Mechanics is one semester, E&M is the other. These are considered intro college physics courses at UVA, W&M , ivies etc. Some schools have a lower level physics for non-stem, but these two semesters are considered the standard "first" semesters of physics for stem majors, with UVA/WM/ivies etc going above and beyond the AP physics C curriculum.

A- is fine; but it is factually around the median for that class at TJ. Not bad, but not impressive considering the AP score as well.

Not from TJ no they did not. B+ at TJ will not lead to ivy/plus level unless it is not in the interest area, or was in 9th or 10th and all A in higher levels, as well as the rest of the app close to flawless. Or a hook. B+ is at or below average in almost every class at TJ.

This sort of grade inflation does no favors for anyone.

agree. sadly it is very similar at almost all high schools these days.

What are the chances in top colleges such as Ivies?. Do these colleges consider the grade or AP scores or both?. Should we report these AP scores in the college application?

Isn’t the word around the grapevine that kids that get Bs at TJ get 5s on their AP exams?

TJ has above 80% 4s and 5s in most AP classes, so yes some with Bs get 4 and 5s. OP has an average grade yet a below average for TJ scores,
3 and a 4.
