Is Emory a Top Choice For Anyone?

The admissions standard today is no the same and T25s are the same level today as T10s many years ago. If you apply ED to Emory for any reason than its not a backup, either you love it or you dont think you can do better either way not a backup. If you RD to Emory its still not a back up as its a 5% acceptance rate, with a 1540 SAT avg. Only students who Reach Emory Scholars finals are can consider Emory a backup and thats only 100ish students a year.

Correction: the most recent CDS has 1540 as the 75th percentile SAT, with 1510 as the median. And over a third of the class is test optional. And that’s not counting the kids at Oxford. So the “admissions standard” isn’t as high as PP would like you to believe.

I’m not saying Emory is anyone’s backup, because they take most of their class in ED. But that’s exactly why Emory isn’t really on the radar in the DMV: if you’re a high-stats student, Emory isn’t aspirational enough to justify an ED, and the odds of admission are too low to justify an RD. They also waitlist a lot of kids which, given the rest of the profile, makes me suspect they use the waitlist for yield protection.

The CDS is from last year. The 1540 avg was from the Emory Admitted students day conference several weeks ago. They also said over 80% submitted test scores. If Emory isnt aspirational enough AND TOO selective, then why do so many top students apply? You sound dumb.

Of course Emory has better stats for admitted students (which is what they are talking about at admitted students day) than enrolled students (a group that won’t be finalized until fall). Every school does. The strongest admitted students are the hardest to yield.
it wont drop much. Last years admitted was a 1530, enrolled a 1510. So expect at worst a 1510 or at best a 1530 enrolled this year with many more students submitting.

Which is overall similar to the schools like NYU, Tufts, BU, BC, Northeastern, Wake Forest, and USC.

Oxford College is still better than those as well.

Only in your imaginary world.

I would rather tell others at my country club that DD goes to Emory-Oxford than BU. But you're allowed to think differently

Isn't it true kids only stay at Oxford for one year, and then they have the option of going back to the main campus? Two campuses are essentially the same?

Agree that Oxford is still better.

DP…a large number of colleges are in the middle of nowhere from Penn State to Grinell to Carlton…the list goes on.

Atlanta is 30 miles away so it’s a lot closer to somewhere than countless other schools.

You probably don't even know what Emory-Oxford is like most people.

Georgia resident. Oxford is 30 miles east of Atlanta and there are regular campus shuttles to Atlanta. It’s also walking distance to grocery stores and fast food places. Not as isolated as places like Williams, Cornell, etc.

Sounds like Wellesley.

I remember when Emory was ranked t20 and people said students only applied if they wanted a T20 school. Now its T25 and they're saying the same thing, when the school gets even more applicants. Something doesn't add up there.
