| How about DePaul? |
A 3.7 is never a B or a B+. It is an -A or 90-92%. |
According to people here, everything is a waste of money. Spend your dollars how you wish. |

Girl from our HS (public) got into both USC and NYU with a 2.87 GPA (weighted GPA was no better), for Studio Arts. Off the WL for both. She submitted her 1080 SAT to NYU as well. Presumably her art portfolio was outstanding. |
This is possible if you are exceedingly talented. Of course, it is rare. |
A B+ is usually required unless you have a top portfolio. RISD is all about talent in the creative fields. |
It’s not rare. It’s not hard to understand they are looking for the top talent. If they could do admissions by portfolio and interviews alone they would. If someone doesn’t get into a program it’s about the portfolio not their GPA. |
Good at art -> rich -> better schools -> better test scores -> smarter individual. Good artists aren’t typically dumb as a box of rocks. |
DC is currently at RISD, and the kids who are admitted and enroll need to be able to pass their humanities and social science required courses (as well as math courses for those in architecture) while completing a very heavy studio work load. There's a decent amount of research and writing involved, so having only an excellent portfolio is not enough. RISD is not going to accept a kid who can't pass their required courses, which is why their average SAT scores and GPAs are unusually high for an art college. Kids need to be able to handle the academics with some ease so that they can focus on their art. |
Agreed. It’s ranked 4th in the nation for top art schools. But good news is, the portfolio holds the most weight for admission, so would be a great option for a B student with a good portfolio. |
| DePaul has an outstanding film program. We just toured and dc was blown away. |
| Emerson and DePaul for sure. SUNY Purchase is an excellent state school option, as is VCU Arts (if they can get in, the Arts program is way more competitive than the rest of VCU). |
