Which colleges should be on my artsy kid's list?

Check out Colleges that Change Lives (ctcl.org) for schools that provide a positive environment for students with learning disabilities. Oberlin, Bard, and Sarah Lawrence are on their list.

The schools recommended thus far are on the money. To a point made earlier, your kids grades are really low so do you have a solid objective understanding of their artistic skills? I know someone who got into USC with a 27 ACT - Cinema school - so anything is possible with an amazing portfolio.

I don't think I'd put any of these schools onto the same list with most of the others on OP's list. But Oberlin and Bard do have a good track record of their kids getting jobs in film, and certainly both have lots of students who are the kids of film industry people. I'd put both on the list, although i would add that grades might be a problem for Oberlin.

The Sarah Lawrence film program, basically an expensive camp, is a joke. My nephew did it and transfered out after he finished it. I can't go into details, but was ridiculously poorly managed and some true concerns I would have had as a parent. It's mostly a college that is in trouble across the board. You have much better options.

OP, sorry to be the downer here, but my best friend in advertising says AI is reshaping the field. I don't know if that is a safe field to go into right now?

Disagree - SCAD and Syracuse within range

If student is exceptionally talented - add NYU and RISD to the list. Especially if
You are “full pay.”

Be careful with the New School. Their budget/finances aren’t great.

Also, check out FIT. If you are a NYS resident, cheap! Still a good deal if you are out of state.

Do you know which schools take portfolios very seriously relative to other academic stats for art applicants?

I haven’t seen that discussed on this site but I’d be interested to hear it!

It’s obvious that so many here only know about STEM.

Some of the better arts programs need a 2.0 GPA, some need a 3.0. Their art portfolios are everything.

It might be a perfect time to get into these fields and know how to incorporate AI in the work. There are still humans involved.

Bard, for sure. But is Marist really “artsy”? I know they offer studio art and design majors at their Italy campus, as well as fashion marketing, but I didn’t get the impression their main campus was very arts-oriented. The vibe is certainly not that of an artsy school.
