Holton-Arns and Brown

Can we please remember that we’re talking about actual students here? It’s not appropriate for adults to be speculating about individual students’ qualifications, backgrounds, or how they got into college. These are real people, and this kind of discussion can be harmful. Let’s keep the conversation focused on the original question about the school itself.

Above comments are crazy and embarrassing. Here are my two cents on Brown and Holton:

Head college counselor (or any) is yet to admit Holton is blacklisted. She seems straightforward and in my opinion, would admit if we were. When we considered another school, she flat-out told us they get a very limited number of acceptances there each year and do not have a relationship in the admissions office (due to new-ish admissions officers, I think she reasoned), and that my daughter was unlikely to grab one of those spots. We appreciated this and pivoted. Like another comment I saw writes, she maintains that Holton just has not sent a strong fit to Brown yet.

I don't see this being a forever trend. At some point, Brown will take a non-athlete non-connected Holton girl.

I can also see merit in the reasoning that Holton girls (and other such school students) are often not good fits for places like Brown due to the rigidity and pressure-cooker environment that Holton is. It is difficult to adapt. Even if a Holton girl can get in, sometimes they cannot succeed in a place that is so free and do-what-you-want.

Also, a Holton student ED'd to Brown a few years ago, was waitlisted/rejected, went to another LAC, and then transferred to Brown after her Freshman year. Food for thought.

Stop talking about one particular child. This is so wrong. Everyone who has given any identifying information should be ashamed of themselves.
I hope Jeff deletes this thread.

This thread is absolutely evil. You all are practicing spelling out the names of specific girls who should be celebrating their achievements in peace.
