Does anyone know why Holton-Arms students don’t seem to get accepted to Brown? Looking at the data, it appears no one has been admitted there in at least 5+ years. My daughter is in love with the school and would love to apply Early Decision, but if the Scoir data is anything to go by, that would be wasting an ED opportunity. |
Are kids applying from there to Brown ED? |
I am not sure. I just know that no one gets in. |
What does the Scoir/Naviance data say? |
What do the college counselors say? |
Does the scattergram show the rejects? Or is there not enough data to show? DS goes to a larger private and most of the Ivys don’t have enough data to populate a scattergram |
Colleges can be very particular about students and their high schools when it comes to ED admissions. Good call checking the data from Holton-Arms before committing to an ED app. Save the Brown app for RD and look at the data again and see where Holton Arms students are having some success in the ED round. |
This. Some schools don't like some schools - and I wish it wasn't true. |
Check with school counselor if Scior is correct. I would hope for what you are paying at Holton it would be in better shape than MCPS where Naviance data can be a bit of a mess.

It’s funny, the person I think of when I think of Holton arms was very preppy and sort of upper crust/traditional. When I think of Brown, I think of a more hippie, sort of very liberal vibe.(Both rich kids though.)
It’s probably more to do with the admissions office liking certain schools, but I just don’t see a lot of Holton Arms girls applying to Brown and wanting to go there as their top choice. |
Yeah, this is our school with Vanderbilt. 20% of the class going to Ivies. Meanwhile Vanderbilt rejects everyone even kids who apply ED. Rumor is a couple of kids broke Vandy ED contracts a while back and the school was blacklisted. Who knows if that's true. |
The school counselor will know how many have applied ED to Brown and private school counselors are often pretty forthcoming with that info. Email your counselor and ask! |
If there's a pattern of breaking ED contracts, that's going to get every private school blacklisted at the affected schools. Because that's a reflection of the school administration and counselors not being good partners with selective universities. It's a waste of time for everyone, and there are 25,000 other high schools out there. |
I have the feeling Holton Arms has too much of a finishing school vibe for admission to Brown. Not enough out of the box thinkers. |
I think the person who posted about this knows that could blackball all applicants. She wasn't saying there was a "pattern" of this happening but there is a RUMOR that this could have happened with a "couple" of kids. |
