I think it’s perfectly fine to donate $1. With the tax cuts in the “big beautiful bill” now rich families can donate more than ever to private schools. Let middle class families continue saving for college. |
At the major DC area privates, parents are paying at least $5k-$10k of their annual full pay tuition towards the financial aid programs and there is no way to opt out. Financial aid is a major part of the school’s budget despite the availability of public schools. The private school parents are being forced to pay for the classmates on financial aid. |
Forced? Really? You mean, like, at gunpoint? If you don’t like it, public schools are available. No FA. |
+1. Public schools are a great option for parents who are bitter about their private school’s practices. |
If you want to know why tuition is so high, the answer is the financial aid program. Not bitter just explaining this because the exact reason is well known. |
There's literally no way they can avoid paying tuition? Think hard. |
If you think you are being clever, you are not. I have pets smarter than you. |
Again, public school sounds like a great option for you. You really should consider it. |
Back at you. |
Right. But people are bitter about it. And it's because exclusivity is what they're paying for. And financial aid students are bewildering for them and lessons the value of the product. So these parents get super upset about a tuition increase because they think it helps "them." Not because they can't afford it. Private school parents in DC are incredibly tribal. There is Us. And there is Them. And Them should not be encouraged to attend their schools. Because what is the point of an expensive private school if you can't avoid Them. |
It has nothing to do with being clever, and everything to do with how you use the word “forced.” |
Why? I’m perfectly fine with our school’s financial aid practices. You, on the other hand, seem to have much to complain about. |
Complaining about being forced to pay sounds bitter. You haven’t explained this “forced” issue. How does that work exactly? |
If the entirety of Sidwell’s financial aid budget was applied instead as a tuition discount, it would knock about $8,750 off of tuition that currently runs $51-58k. Try again. |
Jackpot. Almost $10k of tuition at Sidwell is due to the financial aid program. It is even higher elsewhere. |
