At the major DC area privates, parents are paying at least $5k-$10k of their annual full pay tuition towards the financial aid programs and there is no way to opt out.  Financial aid is a major part of the school’s budget despite the availability of public schools.  The private school parents are being forced to pay for the classmates on financial aid.[/quote]

Right. But people are bitter about it. And it's because exclusivity is what they're paying for. And financial aid students are bewildering for them and lessons the value of the product. So these parents get super upset about a tuition increase because they think it helps "them." Not because they can't afford it. Private school parents in DC are incredibly tribal. There is Us. And there is Them. And Them should not be encouraged to attend their schools. Because what is the point of an expensive private school if you can't avoid Them. [/quote]
