10 Year Old Virginia Girl Dies at Versailles

I disagree. It’s written by a devastated mother whose child died on a trip with her dad and stepmom. And she has been completely shut out of any information regarding what happened, the funeral, the autopsy, etc. She is obviously desperate for answers and even asked for lawyer recommendations in her go fund me.

Agree. Takes daughter on luxury vacation during custody battle. Is the parent on site when daughter dies. Cannot even keep bio mom in the loop. Inhumane even if they were viciously arguing. Now they are no longer even permanently tied, but he can't put the battling aside.

100% this. I think the mom is.so devastated and bio dad and stepmother are just twisting the knife.

But other than asking for lawyer recs in Virginia she doesn’t even say what she is asking for. She’s just venting about her ex.

“… I am equally responsible for any associated costs. He has not informed me of expenses for repatriating our daughter…”

But she doesn’t title it “funeral and repatriation expenses for my daughter.”

She calls it “a mother’s quest for the truth” like the donations are paying for this “quest.”

She wants answers. Why is that so hard to understand?

Sometimes dads who have limited involvement blame the mother for everything. Blaming someone else is common in custody cases like this. There is no way to know what the truth is or who is a good person or bad person or what has actually happened.

Mom had full physical custody at the time of death and claims that dad granted that request rather than face potentially damning medical findings in court. It seems unlikely that he would suddenly roll over like that after putting up such a lengthy fight unless there was something significant that made him change his mind. I hope a good investigative reporter picks up this case and gets to the bottom of it, whatever the case may be.

This is absolutely terrible to hear.

I visited Versailles this spring and was shocked how crowded the palace was. There was literally no room to walk through many of the chambers and hallways because it was crammed with giant tour groups and had poor ventilation. I didn't see emergency exits or limits to crowds and honestly it felt dangerous. I would hate to see what would happen if there was a fire.

There is a lot walking involved at Versailles. Think Disneyworld levels of walking and like another PP said there arent a lot of water fountains, water refill stations or vending machines in France like are found in the US and UK.

Can someone post the competing GoFundMes?

Mom says she got physical custody in June and at that time made a room for her daughter…clearly the daughter hadn’t been coming all along and who knows if legally she actually had full custody. I know many on this board automatically assume women are all saints and perfect mothers and can only ever be victims and fathers are all evil monsters and losers who can only ever harm others but we don’t actually know the facts of the case. Making up imaginary narratives based on your own prejudiced beliefs adds nothing.

Thanks. How awful all around. I feel terrible for the mother being so far away and left out of the loop. I can’t imagine fundraising off this with a picture of the poor girl who died on the homepage. Do people have no shame?

Anonymous wrote:What the news is not reporting is that she was there with her father and her stepmother, and they were embroiled in a vicious custody battle with her biological mother.

The stepmother (an elementary school teacher) was widely known to harass and bully the girl, publicly food- and body-shaming her, but had such a cult of personality around her that no action was ever taken.

The father is related to several wealthy doctors.

Wow, how disturbing. Who are they and how do you know this? Do you suspect foul play?

I used to work at the school. I saw it first hand, as did most of the other staff. Admin was also VERY aware.

Stepmom kept insisting the girl was autistic (she wasn’t) and eventually enrolled her in a very conservative Baptist school nearby (but kept her bio kid at the school where she worked.)

I absolutely suspect foul play. Stepmom is a total Lifetime movie villain.

She put pictures of the girl wearing a long sleeved dress on her FB, when the rest of the family was dressed in short-sleeves, sundress, etc. She also posted a pic of the girl at Versailles, presumably just a short time before she “collapsed.”

With many posts re the trip. Nothing, exact a story (kind of) about this poor girl tragedy.

Dad always had custody of the girl. Mom used to live in Virginia.

How about we delete this thread and get out of the middle of this clearly deep family dispute?
