10 Year Old Virginia Girl Dies at Versailles

Anonymous
My cousin died while in Spain during a heatwave. He was in good shape, and had just had a check up a few months prior, with no known heart issues. The cause was a massive heart attack, but I have always thought extreme heat was a factor. One can never know. It was a complete shock, since he was an active, and happy family man on his first trip to Europe with a young teen and wife. Take nothing for granted. Stay cool and don’t push it too much during these heatwaves.

It makes no sense. She goes on and on about medical records and care for health, what could have prevented this, negligence etc and in her last paragraph says her daughter, "didn't have any significant medical issues." Which is it?

The extensive medical records probably pertain to a behavioral issue (ASD) and what she probably means is that her child did not have any physical medical issues.

The mom is clearly a nutter. Dad and Stepmom don’t sound much better - poor kid was doomed.

And totally unclear what she's raising money for. Nutcases all around in that family.

It sounds like the divorce/custody battle is very contentious and expensive. It also sounds like she is mad he was getting a fundraiser and she wasn’t. Just an excerpt from her long and disjointed rambling GFM: (you should read the whole thing.)

“When I learned about the fundraising efforts, I reached my breaking point. I contacted the individual who started the fundraising page to request its removal, as it was created without my knowledge or consent. We should have handled these matters together, as I am equally responsible for any associated costs. He has not informed me of expenses for repatriating our daughter, nor has he provided any opportunity for me to participate in arrangements.”

I didn’t get nutcase from the GFM, I got mom with significant limitations on what she could say for legal reasons. The dad sounds like a colossal dbag.

Agree. Takes daughter on luxury vacation during custody battle. Is the parent on site when daughter dies. Cannot even keep bio mom in the loop. Inhumane even if they were viciously arguing. Now they are no longer even permanently tied, but he can't put the battling aside.

100% this. I think the mom is.so devastated and bio dad and stepmother are just twisting the knife.

But other than asking for lawyer recs in Virginia she doesn’t even say what she is asking for. She’s just venting about her ex.

But she doesn’t title it “funeral and repatriation expenses for my daughter.”

She calls it “a mothers quest for the truth” like the donations are paying for this “quest.”

Just because mom hates dad and blames him for her limited involvement and all the problems doesn’t really mean anything. Sometimes dads who have limited involvement blame the mother for everything. Blaming someone else is common in custody cases like this. There is no way to know what the truth is or who is a good person or bad person or what has actually happened.

The stepmother (an elementary school teacher) was widely known to harass and bully the girl, publicly food- and body-shaming her, but had such a cult of personality around her that no action was ever taken.

The father is related to several wealthy doctors.

Wow, how disturbing. Who are they and how do you know this? Do you suspect foul play?

I used to work at the school. I saw it first hand, as did most of the other staff. Admin was also VERY aware.

Stepmom kept insisting the girl was autistic (she wasn’t) and eventually enrolled her in a very conservative Baptist school nearby (but kept her bio kid at the school where she worked.)

I absolutely suspect foul play. Stepmom is a total Lifetime movie villain.

She put pictures of the girl wearing a long sleeved dress on her FB, when the rest of the family was dressed in short-sleeves, sundress, etc. She also posted a pic of the girl at Versailles, presumably just a short time before she “collapsed.”

But bio mom had joint legal custody? Did Bio mom used to live in Richmond? Or Dad used to live in NC?
