Rehoboth beach- cost and the economy

I really don't find prices at Rehoboth to be that bad. Still much less than comparable in DC area for restaurants and entertainment.

No matter where you go, prices are hiked up for the high season. Abroad, Americans are seen as dollar signs. Everyone expects a tip for every little thing.

Some of you people seem like you would not be much fun to vacation with.

Maybe vacations just aren’t in your budget. None of your complaints strike me as complaint worthy.
Some of the very people charging exorbitant prices to rent their properties are on this board. Ignore them. You are not alone OP it is very expensive and not worth it unless airfare is cost prohibitive for the size of your family land even then there are much better beaches to visit for the same price or less.)

Rehoboth is RIDICULOUSLY expensive for what you get.
Seriously, save your money and go to the Caribbean or even St. Tropez. the weekly rental of Villas in St Tropez costs as much as one in Rehoboth for the same quality. Yes, you'll have to pay airline tickets that are around $800 per person round trip but you get a much nicer vacation.

That's an extra $4K for my family of five.

We started vacationing 1970's style. Split a rental w/ another family and kids have a slumber party in sleeping bags.

Cost of flight really hurts if you have family of 4-5. We rent a house and find the cost do-able. I’ve never looked at hotel prices in Rehoboth but hotels suites are tough to find as we have kids.

I only go to places that are explicitly LGBT supportive. Most places people go to are not friendly.

Wait until OP finds out the price of eggs, milk, and bread at their local grocery store...

Anyway, Rehoboth isn't that bad. Plus no sales tax!

Yup. I can get cheaper tix to Portugal and cheaper housing there than a week at Bethany at this point.

Portugal beaches are a NIGHTMARE in summer. totally mobbed with people and choking with seaweed, algae blooms and sewage! The smell is atrocious.

In Rehoboth this shouldn’t be an issue. Where in Rehoboth is not lgbt friendly?

Three bedroom/three bath condo about 10 minutes from the beach (on the golf course) is around $1000 for 5 nights. It's worth driving south for a cheaper vacation. It's probably 4 tanks of gas for us (around $140).

10 minutes from the beach is cheap in Rehoboth too. The problem is that ten minutes from the beach is not much fun - you still have to pack up all your stuff, deal with cranky kids, drive to the beach, find a place to park - it’s a hassle. You need to be within a block or two of the beach - otherwise, what’s the point?

You are just spoiled and lazy. Make your kids help carrying their own stuff.

Yeah…that’s it…because staying at basically a shitty suburban tract home in a nondescript housing development is the idea of a vacation. Have you been 10 miles west of Rehoboth?

But hey…have fun on your wonderful vacation.

your could drive there Saturday morning very early with no hotel spend day, they open bookings. com, priceline, trivago, tripadvisor apps etc and by then just find a hotel within afew miles cheap and stay over. Worse case drive back or stay a motel on way back. Tons of cheap ones. You cant do that on a flight.

There is one cheap hotel with a room tonight for $210 in a last minute booking Not great

DP here - I think the pp meant they go to Rehoboth because it's very LGBT friendly and that's why they don't go to some other places mentioned here.

+1 We have 3 kids so that's 5 plane tix. Even if we get a good deal on flights, it's going to be an extra $4-5K. Plus sometimes we travel with friends so we only pay for half the rental or we take my mom with us.

Posters are way too picky if they can't find a decent rental within a couple blocks to the beach in Rehoboth for ~$5K for the week.
