| ^^ The Hardy grade size is a bit higher than it used to be. |
This is worthless unless you know how many kids are in the class each year which BTW has increased in size significantly. You need to look at percentages and if that 90 is correct, only about 50% kids continued on which is not high. |
Students enrolled in 8th grade (% to IB HS) SY19-20: 141 (61%) SY20-21: 156 (62%) SY21-22: 163 (58%) SY22-23: 186 (59%) - MA opens SY23-24: 177 (56%) SY24-25: 187 90 would be 48% of the 8th grade class. Still pretty good for a new school, especially if students with older siblings at JR still have rights to JR. With the bigger class sizes let's say 110 is likely max on students coming from Hardy. If the MacArthur freshman classes remain around 190, the school is always going to be 40%+ OOB. For comparison, JR was 39% OOB in SY24-25. |
|
Mixed up a little bit of language above - students coming from Hardy are not necessarily IB.
The more relevant JR comparison is what percentage of Deal 8th graders move on to JR: SY19-20: 64% SY20-21: 63% SY21-22: 62% SY22-23: 54% SY23-24: 55% |
That's an interesting comparison! |

Enjoyed this video that showed up on linked in

Not good stats when 1/2 the kids in ward 3 opt out of DCPS. That is really high. |
Wrong. Kids from hardy had to apply to the lottery and only 3-5 actually ended up going to JR |
| Also all of my kids went to hardy and absolutely LOVED it. My oldest daughter (9th grade) had a hard time adjusting to high school after being in such a good middle school. The teachers were kind and her classmates were welcoming and she had many friends (all who went to different schools; MacArthur, Banneker, and private schools) if you are thinking about sending your kid(s) to hardy, DO IT!! |
Not out of DCPS, just not to a feeder. That seems pretty normal in a school system with selective high schools. Out of the 177 SY23-24 Hardy 8th graders, 99 went to a feeder DCPS (56%), 48 were not in audit (27%), 13-29 (7-16%) went to a selective DCPS school, 2-18 went to another DCPS HS (1-10%), and 2-18 went to a charter (1-10%). Out of the 464 SY23-24 Deal 8th graders, 257 went to the feeder DCPS (55%), 97 were not in audit (21%), 90-114 went to a selective DCPS school (19-25%), 14-38 went to another DCPS HS (3-8%), and 3-27 went to a charter (1-6%). |
This passes the smell test. Of Hardy/Deal families around us, 1/2 go to the local HS. 1/4 go to Walls (and Banneker/Ellington/Etc). 1/4 move to Private or move to Bethesda/Nova (St Johns/Maret are common choices). |
