No one denies that there is a small number of sharp cookies who enroll - to their own detriment? - at public universities but that would be a needle in the haystack situation (UVA , for example , has less than 1% NMSF students)….

Environment matters a lot and plethora of mediocrity can pull the top ones down….

Omg, I have a likely NMSF and I am not at all she can even get into UVA!

Same! Perfect PSAT definitely doesn’t guarantee UVA admissions. Still seems like a high target for my DC.

#9 Northeastern
Haters are dying

Over 90 percent of Northeastern scholarships are from Northeastern itself, not NMSC. Northeastern has cleverly learned that this sort of investment elevates them on simplified lists like this, contributing to a sense of parity with aspirational peers. But unfortunately it’s fake.

Btw, USC and Vanderbilt doing something similar with over 80 percent of their scholarships coming from…themselves. Once you adjust for the “rent a scholar effect” this list looks like pretty much what already know: HYPSM.

The ACT is easier. Admissions knows that.

Only slightly. A 36 ACT converts to a 1590 SAT. My NMSF kid realized he could score a 36 in one sitting with no prep other than a single practice test. Why worry about the SAT in a new format when they could just do that?

Because the kid with a SAT1600 can flex on him.

Actually, this does work as a line at MIT fraternity parties, especially with the girls from Northeastern. Legit.

Oh is that what gets the ladies hot and bothered now. Barf.

What percent of MIT students have an SAT score of 1600?

And you believe that poster because they said “legit”? Really?

The 75th percentile for admitted students is 800M and 780E. You can do the math.

About 2500 students in the world score 1590 or 1600 on the SAT, and MIT is attracting a sizable percentage of that group.

I can certainly believe this happened at parties with a high concentration of autism and limited social skills yes.

Clearly has never been to an MIT party.

That would be utterly absurd

Sorry your kid didn't qualify.

Mine have been very happy at their SLACs.

So let me get this straight...a school like USC attracts super high scoring SAT takers (the one test everyone agrees on measures actual academic potential) and somehow that is a bad thing?

And Florida and Alabama offer a full scholarship so those who know value take up itheir offer and that is somehow bad?

Does UF offer full ride for National Merit finalists?. I was reading yesterday and it said just $500. Maybe it is their scholarship based on the application - https://admissions.ufl.edu/cost-and-aid/scholarships
