He stole $15,000 from his work to finance his campaign.

Aaand at least one of his strip club visits was during a FCPS paid school board boondoggle trip to New Orleans.

Why are we taxpayers paying money to fly our school board to party in New Orleans and hang out at stip clubs, when they cry they don't have enough money to pay our teachers a liveable wage or educate our most vulnerable older special needs students?

I'm really curious about the bolded. Where can we find more information about this? Do they often send themselves on boondoggle trips like this at taxpayer expense? What's the total tab?

Statement from Fairfax County Public Schools:

"We have been made aware of a civil lawsuit filed against School Board Member Kyle McDaniel. We understand that this is an ongoing business and legal dispute. We respect the legal process and will refrain from commenting further at this time."

I wouldn't be surprised if FCPS paid his legal expenses.

This! Why are trips to New Orleans part for 12 school board members part of fcps’s “bare bones” budget?

There would be absolutely no basis for them to do so. He’s not being sued in his capacity as a school board member, even if one of the allegations is that he embezzled funds from his ex-employer to spend on his school board campaign.

He doesn’t have a criminal record. This is a civil complaint that was just filed. No verdict, no finding that he did anything wrong yet. If you want to call for an independent investigation then fine, but people already saying he is guilty or a criminal are clueless.

The complaint was actually filed on March 13th, a bit over three weeks ago. That’s a long time for McDaniel and the School Board to keep quiet about it, particularly because the accusations represent a possible conflict of interest with his position at the School Board. These accusations reflect on his character: embezzlement, charges for adult entertainment, and use of company cards for his political campaign for the School Board.

For someone who run a campaign on zero tolerance for dishonesty, and proactive accountability to his constituents, he has been too quiet for quite too long.

Not a single cent of our tax money should be used for an independent investigation, nor any legal fees related to this case. McDaniel and the School Board can pay out of pocket for this since they are the ones interested in maintaining him in the School Board.

Also, in Virginia, embezzlement is considered a form of larceny, which can lead to criminal charges, ranging from misdemeanor to felony depending on the value of the property or funds embezzled.

There is an unconfirmed report that another School Board member was with McDaniel on one of his strip club jaunts. Maybe that’s why FCPS has just been sitting on this.

While they stay quiet, it's making our district look awful. https://x.com/lcpsdobetter/status/1908590974210556119?s=42

OMG! I'm beyond disgusted - but I did get a good laugh. Touche.

VA code requires training for elected school board members. https://www.vsba.org/services/board-training-development/training-requirement-for-school-board-members/#:~:text=EVERY%20school%20board%20must%20require,annual%20SOQ%20Compliance%20Data%20Certification.

One could argue that they need to tighten their spending though going forward and limit how many members are allowed to travel to the national training. Maybe someone should FOIA the school board budget?

There are many professions that require annual training/continuing education. That does not mean it is OK to make it a trip to New Orleans.

If the organization is large enough, close to the nation’s capital, and a short drive to Richmond, maybe those requirements for “high-quality professional development at the state, local, or national levels” can be met without a boondoggle? I don’t see any calls for teacher PD days to start taking place at Dollywood, so why should SB mandatory trainings be boondoggles?

Travel isn’t required for training. I bet they could even fulfill the requirement virtually.

A spokesperson for McDaniel released an official statement on his behalf:

"This is an ongoing business dispute between my former business partner and myself. I’m going to let this play out in the courts where I intend to prevail, and not in the press."

How shocking that his former business partner would take issue with Kyle stealing company funds for strip clubs, family vacations, and his school board campaign. Kyle seems like he's on solid ground here.

Not good enough. The public needed a strong denial that he embezzled funds to spend on a strip club, family vacations, and his school board campaign.

If he can’t muster that, he should not be conducting any SB business at all. Resign now.

If digital learning is good enough for our elementary kids, then it is good enough for our school board. FCPS should only fund online training for our school board.

Sending them to party at strip clubs on the taxpayer dimes while proframs are being cut and teachers not fully funded is a disgusting abuse of taxpayer dollars.

Yes! We all know that strip clubs are a great source of "good quality" instruction on School Board needs.
