Teachers' access to student's info

Mcps Central and Principals ("leaders") don't want to jump on this one. Typical.

What do they need to "jump on"? Is it a big problem in the district that teachers are misusing personal information of their students for nefarious purposes...?

Is this even possible?

Someone needs to clear up this confusion. That's what the OP's question was.

In ES, one teacher might teacher all subjects. Some kids have services such as speech, ell, OT etc..who all may be able to access that student's info and what info exactly?

In MS and HS, students have multiple classes with different teachers. Does each teacher have access to a student's info other than their own course's grade etc..? Does the English teacher have access to the Math grade for their students? Why does a science teacher have access to a student's state mandated test scores etc..?

In hs teachers can see all grades. We had a teacher who was trying to help with something look at everything.

I actually JUST came on here to ask something similar and would love to hear more insight.

My neighbor is a teacher. Can he look up my son's grades from a DIFFERENT high school? So say he teaches at Wheaton and my kid attends Kennedy. Do teachers have access to the grades of any MCPS student or just ones at their own school?

Just their own

Conflicting info up-discussion

Where did it say teachers can see other schools grades and info?

I'm the PP with the attendance secretary family member who told me she looked up her friend's kid's grades and attendance from other schools. I don't know if it's true because that person is a liar about everything. I would also like confirmation.
.

Well I don't know about administrative secretaries, since they may have a hand in enrolling new students. But I'm a teacher and I'm on Synergy right now. I can't change the school I am viewing it is preset and locked. I can't see my colleagues gradebooks in the same building either. I can see my students in my attendance view, when they have been absent in a previous period, I can tell. That's about it.

Thanks to you and 12:45 for your replies.

Classroom teachers do not have access to other schools. Other staff members do. I don’t know specifically about attendance secretaries.

This thread is nuts. OP seems paranoid

NP, I know right? On my list of things to worry about, my kids math teacher looking up his English grade is not on the list. What is your actual beef with this OP?

Thought the same and had been ignoring this thread for this reason. But also because I thought to myself, wait till they find out any staff member in a medical setting can look your information up as long as it's the same system.

Different staff members can have varying levels of access depending on what they need to know. I'm a teacher and can only see students who attend my school and on my class roster.

Yes they do
