Teachers' access to student's info

Anonymous
? in title.
Is there a reason why all the teachers have access to a student's schedule and other info such as grades, report card comments, birthdate etc..? Let's say a student is taking Jumbo (a made up subject/class because...mcps lurkers on here). The teacher in another class, let's call it Shrimp class, asks the student about something they saw in the student's record for Jumbo class.

There are Principals and teachers who work for MCPS on DCUM. They have as much right to use this site as you. Yet you call them "lurkers". Do you think that had you mentioned "Algebra 1" and "Global Humanities" they would have identified your kid????

If you don't know the answer to the question, there may be a thread with a GREAT topic for you!

Could be.
Or classes could have been crab and crab meat since it's a MD schools forum.

Mcps teacher here. If I work with the student, I have justification to look at their profile, including grades, educational history, test scores, and personal information such as birth date address etc. if I do not work directly with the student, then no, I don’t have reason to look.

I don't understand your question. Are you asking why ELA teachers know about a student's math grade?

If teachers are seeing a child struggle in every subject or in one subject only, that's valuable information that can lead to getting the right help.

Note OP, that the one who has given you a cogent answer is part of the MCPS lurkers you wanted to exclude.

Typical mcps response: who? what class? tell us we'll go after that school...just answer the original question.
