‘Trump Slump’ Looms as Foreign Visitors Rethink Travel to U.S.

However, while I understand tourism is big biz, I have to say, it's not terrible to me that certain destinations may have less people visiting. Be it foreigners or even locals, crowds are out of control in so many places these days, it's like everyone wants to holiday at the same time and it's so $$& to do anything now. I would not mind prices dropping let's put it that way.

You are complaining about your fellow Americans. Foreign tourism to the US is about 155 billion. If every single foreign tourist decided to forego a trip to the US you would not notice. Crowds will be the same, prices will continue to rise.

If all that tourism dries up, PP, the restaurants and places you want to visit will go out of business. Tourism is what keeps them open.

There are two special elections in Florida coming up shortly, maybe they will save themselves.

I'm OP and I live in Florida - and don't get your hopes up. The only thing more incompetent than the Trump administration is Florida Dems.

Interesting you blame Dems instead of the morons in FL who keep voting against their own interests and instead vote for racists and facists.

Tourism to the US is one way that foreign countries with trade surpluses can recycle dollars back to the US. Same with international students paying full freight at our universities.

If Trump is successful in reducing trade deficits, you might find it’s easier to find luxury hotels in Miami or get your kid into MIT.

WhenI see posts about this on Facebook (Canadian here) there are a lot of comments from Americans saying "good, stay away!" and laughing at the suggestion that this could be at all harmful to the U.S.

It seems the tourism industry doesn't matter. Or, they don't realize that the lack of travel to the US is happening with more than Canada.

I guess nothing will clue them in.

My family in Sweden was supposed to come visit this summer. They cancelled their plans because they think things are too unstable in the US.

The video of the ICE thugs abducting the PhD student in broad daylight is going globally viral.

Safer places to go.

The context is probably important - I’ve seen the “good, stay away. You’re helping us by doing so” comments. The more other countries fight back, the better (fingers crossed) for Americans.

Doesn't really help when universities are gutted and inflation/stagflation is so bad that no one can afford to travel, and the FAA gutting makes flying unsafe anyhow.

This is already happening and the impacts will be felt in the US for years to come. Unless the GOP comes to its senses and ends this administration, the untold damage will last for years.

Interesting. I don’t do FB, but I’ve made similar comments in the hope that the “free market” Republicans will regret their current stance with Canada. It’s not because I think it doesn’t matter— it’s because I think it DOES.

There does seem to be an uptick in the chart a PP posted. Can someone explain it? If PP is correct, why not a continuous downtrend?

Already booked Easter travel. Similarly there will be more summer travel but it will still be drastically lower.
