So I despise what Trump is doing to US reputation across the board. However, while I understand tourism is big biz, I have to say, it's not terrible to me that certain destinations may have less people visiting. Be it foreigners or even locals, crowds are out of control in so many places these days, it's like everyone wants to holiday at the same time and it's so $$& to do anything now. I would not mind prices dropping let's put it that way.

It's going to be hard for many areas. Alaska s already saying they are seeing a decline in tourism.

Maybe more Russians will come. They have nothing to fear from Trump.

International tourists detained at U.S. borders. Steep tariffs imposed on trade partners. Threats against longtime allies.

The onslaught of contested policies and language by the Trump administration in recent weeks is causing tourists around the globe to either cancel or reconsider travel to the United States. A growing number of visitors say they feel unwelcome or unsafe and are reluctant to support the economy of a country that some foreign officials say is waging trade wars and destabilizing its allies. A draft of a new travel ban circulating through the administration could restrict citizens from up to 43 countries, including Belarus, Cambodia and St. Lucia, from entering the United States.

“So many Americans are looking to escape the tense and toxic atmosphere at home. Why would anyone want to visit, especially right now with all the arbitrary detentions at immigration?” said Mallory Henderson, 53, a marketing consultant in London who usually visits the United States twice a year, but canceled a trip to visit her brother and niece in Boston this Easter.

“It’s a really hostile and scary time, and quite frankly, there’s plenty of other inviting and pleasant places I can go to meet up with my family,” she said.

It's worth a read - not just anecdotes, but data showing tourism down.

I know, great, right? Who needs tourism! Other than it bringing $2.3 trillion to the US economy - or not!

This is actually what America voted for. To keep those filthy foreigners out of our country.

Or so I am told.

The problems is that the Japanese and Kiwis and Europeans and Canadians who came to spend a bunch of money and leave are annoying in the summer in DC when they take bikes on metro in the summer and don’t stand on the right on the escalator, but aren’t the “filthy foreigners” MAGA is taking about. Remember Trump wanted MORE immigrants from Nordic countries (they’re blonde!).

This is misleading. While 2.3 trillion is the aggregate value of ALL travel and tourism in the US, only about 5% of that figure is attributable to international tourism.

"Visitors from many countries spend an average of over $4,000 per visit, and collectively contribute $155 billion in U.S. travel spending every year.""

You understand that the different sectors are dependent on each other for growth, right, and when one or more sectors fall, the others will fall too. So when tourism is down because of international travelers, and when tariffs hit the private sector and when the public sector is experience massive layoffs, it all cascades down.

Yes, those of us with high school economic get this. MAGA is too bring washed to understand basic cause and effect.

Femsplaining at its best!

So the takeaway is you understand but do not care.

I understand. I also understand that the post this was responding to is entirely irrelevant to the conversation. The conversation is, to remind you, about foreign visitors rethinking travel to the US. It is NOT about the entire 2.3 trillion tourism industry as a whole. If you want to make a broader topic for discussion, please do so. Otherwise, it is usually helpful and polite when engaging ina conversation to keep to the topic. Otherwise you are just an annoyance blathering about things irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Okay. On top of the, National Parks, which are another decent sized tourism sector aren’t adequately staffed for summer. And, people are looking at scaling back all nonessential travel because of drop in consumer confidence. So, it’s not just international tourism. MAGA!

With National parks and FAA understaffed, it's probably a good thing they're not coming anymore.

A lot of places hire European college students for the summer from central and Eastern Europe. Cedar Point definitely did that in Ohio because the immediate area around the park is somewhat rural/just not enough people to work there. Not enough staff means some rides won’t be operating and some food stands won’t be open, leading to longer lines everywhere.

+1. I mean, my DD’s Girl Scout camps always had foreign students from English speaking nations (England, New Zealand, etc) as staff. We used to host them at the beginning and end of the season when she was ES/MS aged.

There are two special elections in Florida coming up shortly, maybe they will save themselves.

I'm OP and I live in Florida - and don't get your hopes up. The only thing more incompetent than the Trump administration is Florida Dems.

Florida won’t be blue for at least another couple of generations.

Even if people start out blue as young adults, they overwhelmingly turn conservative as they age. That’s just a fact.

Millennials have not done this.

Gen X either.

Who wants to come here if they might get detained and disappeared into detention?

Plus Republicans pissed off the whole country of Canada.

Wasn’t there another dictator who preferred White pale people with blue eyes? That’s why FoxNews has their female employees dying their hair yellow. They are preparing for when Trump needs to pick another unqualified intelligence officer. Looks before education

But you might mind it if certain destinations close, cut back hours, or alter the experience because of the drop in funds. There’s also the possibility that prices will increase in attempts to make up for the lost revenue.

Cape May County, too. Going to be a great summer along the south Jersey shore, seeing the MAGA get knocked down a few pegs. Wondering if they’re even going to have any employees with Trump’s border crackdown.

Plus also the student workers will probably choose to skip the U.S. this summer.

Which will impact quite a few summer-focused activities. Many apartment pools are staffed by foreign student workers and teachers.

You are complaining about your fellow Americans. Foreign tourism to the US is about 155 billion. If every single foreign tourist decided to forego a trip to the US you would not notice. Crowds will be the same, prices will continue to rise.
