I’m sorry to hear that. Did you get laid off recently? What was your job? |
| I was in college and only had a summer job of making $10.41/hour but I felt rich on this salary, got overtime and extra holiday pay working for the federal government. |
Ha! Yep- and time and half made me feel like king! Like I could go out to eat and pay for someone’s meal! I wasn’t fed government but worked retail as a college student! Those are the days! I looked at minimum wage in VA… it’s $7 something. Given all the “hiring signs and starting at $15+) I thought min wage was 15! So gross! |
| 42K working in HR at a hospitality company |
|
18k as a Hill staffer in 1997.
|
| I was a teacher in the south. I think I made about $28,000. |
| state government lawyer. $45k |
| I was in HR and I think I made between 45K to 50 K. No more than that. |
I should add DC Metro area. |
In 1999, graduated from law school and went to work at the DOJ. Think it was around 50k but could have been lower. |
| Working in admissions at a university - $37.5k. |
| I’m 52. First job was $21K right after college in 94, got a raise the next year to $25K - that felt amazing. In 2000 I think I was in the mid $40Ks. |
I have a card my dad wrote to my mom on their 10th anniversary when he got a raise that took him over $10K for the first time. It was such a huge deal. I think it was 1973. |

Hmmm...
Graduated college with BS in Mech E in 1997 - made $42.5K. By 2000 was probably near $50k. Salary hasn't kept pace with inflation and I haven't been chasing the career either. Those were the days though - only person I was responsible for was myself and I didn't always do a good job at that! |
| $27,531. First job out of college. |
