Career ideas if low IQ but very hard working?

Retail--see above in this thread. Need a degree to be a manager and need to pass exams and trainings. Pharma sales--need a bachelor's degree and need to pass trainings/exams on different products. Low IQ person will fail out of the product trainings.

Firefighter and police--need to pass aptitude exams to get into academy, need to pass multiple exams while in academy, need to demonstrate on the job strong decisonmaking/reasoning ability.

Except most people drop out of CDL school. A low IQ person would struggle with the exams, and many people, no matter how hard they try, lack the spatial awareness ability to complete the CDL training and employer testing to drive an 18 wheeler safely.

It really depends on what kind of low IQ you’re talking about. If you’re talking about, can’t follow simple directions or identify cues, then yes you’re absolutely right. If you’re just talking about higher level thinking, where lower intelligence means you can only see A leading to B, instead of immediately seeing that if A=B=C=D then A=D, sales can still be a good fit. There is just so much material and training out there, and entry level positions are so scripted, that as long as you don’t have a personality where you’re going to get butt-hurt from rejection, you have a decent chance of making a go in a sales position.

And a lot of these low level positions are zero barrier entry, so the quickest way to find out is to just have them get a sales job and see how they do.

I’m not talking about all sales positions. But, if there was ever a career that munificently rewarded mechanical adherence to scripts, mindless repetition of tasks, and following the orders of your manager without consideration to the potential moral implications of those orders- sales is it.

I know someone who ran a successful B2B business. He didn't sell software or anything super complex. Anyway, he hired people with no sales experience for sales. He hired actors and second-tier models and yoga instructors who never made it or were starting to age.

He did great.

My DD is in college for nursing. She is currently taking Calculus, Anatomy, Chemistry, and Pharmacology…. all in one semester.

Law enforcement. My brother is a police officer in a big city and makes over 100k. He is not low iq but did have some learning differences (dyslexia, adhd).

What about hvac repair, plumber, electrician. I was reading about some boxer who discovered he was autistic as an adult and he had been diagnosed during his schooling as low iq and prior to boxing was an electrician. That said…who knows what his non verbal iq was.
