Pick up your kid early if you're concerned. Next thing you know you'll be saying we need to close because of rain.

How neighborly of you to offer to pick up kid not everyone is as privileged as you

Odd response when the pp wanted school to close early for everyone.

No need to screw up things for everyone because a few people are scared of water.

You mean when families asked Grandma to be on standby and was getting ready to leave to pick up. F u

And now grandma has more time on her hands. This is only good news, despite your desperate attempts to try to claim otherwise.

Oh right, so grandma can drive back in the snow. F u again

You can have grandma pick them up whenever you want. Or you can pick your kids up. Or you can have them take the bus. Lots of options.

Privileged poster. Not all get bus service. Do your research before you post.

The call today is reasonable, with flexibility requested of parents who use aftercare.

Here is the relevant portion of the email:

MCPS schools will remain open for the full school day with a normal dismissal time on Tuesday, February 11.

School and community-use activities for the afternoon and evening are canceled, including field trips, games, team practices, and programs in schools and on school grounds.

After-school childcare operates, but families are encouraged to pick up their children as soon as possible. Families are strongly encouraged to contact their childcare provider for specific information.

As long as you have your after school day care, who gives a flying f$#k about anyone else, right?

DP

What a bizarre response the PP simply posting information.

Are you an MCPS employee who wanted to go home early and now can't because aftercare will still be open?

You do realize that it's not MCPS who employees after care, right?

But some MCPS employees need to stay in the buildings then.

Whom? Principal and Building service?

I'd love to know the answer to this to understand better why MCPS has insisted on keeping childcare closed so many days this year when most workplaces were operating normally and expecting their employees to be at work on time. I'm glad they have changed their approach for today.

Early dismissals are the worst. They should have been liberal - a closure.

It's not privilege. It's planning your life with some nod to being a responsible parent.

I don't know how they decide, but the aftercare staff don't have their own keys to the building. They need MCPS staff to let them in.

So they need MCPS staff to lock up as well?

Then you were already planning on getting them. So get them whenever you want. Not everyone is so privileged to be able to pick up their kids from school early.

Yes. I know that's how it works at our elementary school. And in my former neighbor we used to use the school for evening meetings. There was always one of the admins there late.

Surely you weren't talking about today. Tomorrow might be a closure.

Got it, so MCPS has an incentive to keep childcare closed as a gift to their own staff, while parents who are expected to be at work scramble or miss work.

Exactly.

Note that MCPS charges child care providers for MCPS staff to stay so this isn't something MCPS is doing for free, before you screech some offensive thing about working parents.

Oh they'll screech offensive things about working parents regardless. That's the DCUM way!

So parents of students who don't receive bus service are not responsible? As a previous post upthread, fu.
