Be nice. No one is making a deliberate attempt to disregard people with learning disabilities on this thread. Yes, that’s an important issue. How have other countries addressed it and what kind of accommodations do they to help kids with learning disabilities reach their full potential in their systems? Interesting topic for another thread. |

We’ll never have the sort of standardization across schools to make gpa meaningful. Test scores are important and they do correlate to college success, but it’s not the only factor. I’m glad we have holistic review and don’t force kids to peek at 16 and close doors if they don’t.
It is also accurate though that there are high rigor/gpa, perfect or near perfect sat/act cold, with all the social skills and emotional intelligence to stand out in all areas. Seems like some act like this doesn’t exist and it’s plentiful at top schools. |
(while voice texting on their iphones, driving their driver assist electric car over the Chesapeake Bay Bride, no less). |
Yup. When you have one kid with a 3.4 and 1550 with 5s on 11 AP exams, and another kid with a 4.3 and 1300 SAT with 3s on 3 APs, you truly appreciate that GPA, among all measures, should be the first to go. |
That's both true and impossible. |
+100 I’ve always been pro test score. But GPAs are unpredictable—too many variables in rigor and standards—re-takes, etc |
+1 and FWIW both my kids had very high test scores but, due to ADHD challenges, their grades were a mixed bag. They did not belong at T10 schools even if their test scores might indicate otherwise. |
Educate yourself. There are many other articles on this. https://www.nea.org/nea-today/all-news-articles/racist-beginnings-standardized-testing |
THIS! |
Very true; what isn’t plentiful is seats at the table. |
Why did you bring in wealth? Wealth wise I am considerably more successful than three of the four above but I would consider 3 of the four to be more successful than myself. The fourth is just a bit of an idiot who got lucky. |
Sure you are. Another DCUM loser just spewing shit. All 4 of the above are more successful than you. Let's do the smell test...if someone mentioned your name to literally any random person on the street would they have any clue who you are? Once more, by listing people that have become US Senators, VPs and state governors, and then attributing any of that to pure luck...you realize how foolish you sound? |
| We need SAT Subject tests for all subjects end of 11th grade. And that should be the GPA. |
