Focus on the task at hand, which I must remind myself daily as my multitasking skills aren’t as sharp as they once were.

My parenting motto is I want my kids to be Good Parents, Good Spouses, Good Friends. So anything that serves those goals takes priority over the rest.

A family of origin motto was “never pass up a good story.” A favorite family activity is to sit and tell stories of things that happened—the funnier and weirder the better. So if something would make a good story? That’s a good enough reason to give it a shot.

A personal life philosophy is “Walk your own path.”

"What is the most generous interpretation?"

I am at peace most days because I've decided that, as an example, the person who cut me off is on their way to see a dying parent.

This is counterintuitive to a lot of folks, but:

"When in doubt, do nothing."

In my younger years I was always compelled to "do something" when I saw an issue or a problem. I eventually learned that sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing. Involvement does not always help. Activity is not action. Output is not outcomes.

My life is a lot calmer and more enjoyable now.
