This. Not everyone is married to a rich daddy like you, OP. |
Honest question but what do you think happens when you run out of gas? How is this different? |
We drove two, fully paid for, used Hondas (2010 Odyssey and 2015 CRV). Will drive them into the ground before we buy anything else. Even at that time, cannot anticipate paying more money for an electric vehicle, but am certainly grateful to those of you who can afford them. |
They are only as environmentally friendly as the battery supply chain, rare earth minerals, and electric grid can be. They weigh a lot more. I regularly drive 350 miles to see my mom and don’t trust the country roads in between to have charging ports. And, I really don’t want my garage catching fire. I will eventually be on board and get an EV but I would rather wait for the technology to advance in all areas to believe it’s the best choice. I don’t drive regularly anyhow (metro and public transit, mostly). |
I do it just to annoy you, op. |
Lack of charging infrastructure in NYC. |
I like having a fire for the heat and no loss of range in freezing weather. |
Not qualified tax rebates Expensive to install charger at home with detached garage Don’t want to support Musk |
Because I have a 70s house that would need to be completely rewired to put in a charger...and because I am concerned about viability if we have extended power outages. Which we have had before: derecheo.
Do plan to buy a hybrid when we are ready to replace our 20 year old Toyota though. |
Winter issues plus excessive weight wears out tires fast plus too long to charge. |
Won’t keep it in garage due to fire risk |
#1- we have street parking. I guess we could run out a charge cord from the house but only if we are able to park right in front of our house (which we can most of the time, but not always).
#2- nationwide charging network is still not extensive enough. For instance, the options to charge en route to my parents house are really limited. We'd consider a plug-in hybrid when we need a new car, but our current one is sufficient and paid off, so not in the near future. |
We recently bought a new car and intended to buy an EV. There is still a massive premium and we decided to save the extra 10k and buy a hybrid |
1. Currently have a paid off low mileage reliable ICE vehicle.
2. EV charging infrastructure not ubiquitous as gas stations/infrastructure for ICE vehicles. 3. Waiting for costs of owning an EV to come down, and variety to go up. 4. Want EV technology to improve in reliability, vehicle range. 5. I don't need a new vehicle anytime soon...maybe in 10-15 years I'll buy an EV. |
I currently drive an old Prius and our next car will be a plug-in hybrid. I do not see a scenario where I would buy an electric-only car. Besides what has already been said, I can't get my family to fully close the front door of our house at night, much less lock it. (it was really cold in our living room last night!) I don't think their ADHD would allow them to reliably plug in the car at night so that I can get to work in the morning. |
