What is your excuse for not driving an electric vehicle?

1) live in an apartment, no way to set up a charger -- we looked into getting one installed in our outdoor parking pad and building won't allow it.

2) charger availability. Lots where we live, but 5-6x a year we visit family in a place with extremely limited charging, plus limited charging there and back. It's very remote and we don't ever want to get stranded. We'd probably have to pay to install a charger at relatives house to make this realistic.

3) cost. A 40k electric vehicle sounds affordable if you are used to spending 35-50k on a car. We've never spent more than 25k. Also very limited used market.

4) lifestyle. We share a car, and have a kid. Especially if we couldn't charge at home, we worry about the difficulty of making sure the car is charged when we need it. If our current car is low on gas, we can swing by a gas station quickly in the way to school or a kid's activity. EVs require more planning than that.

5) we aren't big has guzzlers in the first place. We drive a small compact vehicle. No car commutes-- car is for certain errands, kid activities, and travel. I want an EV eventually, but I don't think our current gas use makes it a moral imperative.

We have two cars, one 3.5l and one 3.2l. We drive cars until they die, usually 20 years. So we will not buy any new car until well maybe 2038.

So if you are still driving around in a polluting gas car or SUV, why exactly is that?

Because the most environmentally friendly car is the one you already own* and I don’t own an electric car right now, nor will I for another 10 years or so.

*Did you not know this or are you in electric car sales?

+1

"So what can we do yo get you into this electric vehicle today, Bob?"

This is like when my neighbor asked why we don't have an cargo e-bike and my DH was like "I've lived 42 years without one so that seems to be working out ok."

This. I will be long dead before any of this could affect me.

There's a market shortage of used cars at the moment, so this reason doesn't currently hold.
