Nobody is telling anyone to move. |
Huh well, why over on the schools board are they talk about how the high school has 3000 kids because NIMBYs blocked building a new one? You are one and the same. |
lol pathetic defense of blocking the HS. I bet you $10000 the same people who blocked the HS are now whining about not having enough school capacity for growth. |
Pathetic defense? You must be a delusional YIMBY renter without kids. Because you would care if your kid was zoned for a high school with a small turf field on the roof and no swimming pool or theater while kids at the other high schools have all of those things. I have no dog in this fight. I am a parent of high school student but I wouldn’t send them to APS. The County and their schools suck. |
Catch up. The NIMBYs blocked the a new APS HS (and now whine that the schools are too crowded for more housing.) |
Sorry. I should have more specific. I meant Arlington. I thought that was obvious. Since you know, we are talking about Arlington. I did a quick google search and found this: On Election Day, a majority of Arlingtonians approved six bond measures, worth $510 million, that will fund a variety of projects throughout the county. The biggest expenses for the next 10 years include upgrades to its Water Pollution Control Plant, where local sewage goes, and funding to build a new Arlington Career Center campus. |
It’s almost like you are purposely obtuse. I just explained why it was blocked. It’s YIMBY’s like you who can’t make a coherent argument that got us into this mess. |
It was blocked because NIMBY. |
and y’all got close here: https://www.arlnow.com/2023/06/12/arlington-career-center-project-approved-despite-some-resident-concerns/ |
I agree with that, mostly, and have been saying that because they’ve asked for everything we should concede nothing, it’s the only way to negotiate a deal if we are forced to swallow it. However, recent events make me think that we might actually get away with very little being changed. I disagree about the supporters, though, I think that they genuinely felt that people would support the initiative in Montgomery County. This was a high percentage play to them, and some of the more naive ones are shocked. Crazy. |

They literally say stuff like that. People at the YIMBYs for Harris event the other week were saying America should look like Singapore. |
What I think Arlington should do is pass another version of missing middle that only takes effect when surrounding jurisdictions also have similar laws on the books. It makes no sense to me for Arlington to completely dismantle single family zoning when it still exists near the metro in Cleveland Park and Bethesda. |
Thanks for the suggestions but I already have a house in Arlington. But I also am aware that housing in the middle is limited. Any lot suitable for a new build is already bought by a developer, and I’d rather see a duplex be constructed than a hideous McMansion. |
