I have family in the immediate area. The entire response including preparation before the storm has been bungled. I don't believe the mayor can even be bothered to get on the twice daily status briefings. If you like bungled disaster responses, vote Democrat.

What preparation are you expecting? They announced a clear evacuation zone days ahead of time, the storm followed pretty closely to predictions. What exactly will a MAYOR do in a Florida town?

My family is in Asheville area not Florida you moron. There were no evacuation orders until after the storm had already begun and even then it was only in the obvious flood areas. My family was expecting a lot of rain and were prepared for a week. This is going to go at least a month. Death toll will ultimately be hundreds if not thousands. Many like my family who survived the initial storm are trapped in their home with roads washed away and running low on food or water. I've seen more response from private organizations than federal.

There is some speculation that even if they had been able to evacuate everyone when the storms inland track was clear and with the limited roads that quickly began washing away evacuation traffic jams would have made casualties even worse. It’s not set up for mass evacuations like a coastal city. If this is a new trend (hurricanes traveling so far inland) they will obviously have to make changes, but that land is very prone to mudslides and flash flooding coming off the mountaintops so I’m not sure what good evacuation options would look like.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those lost.

The title of thread is so mind-bogglingly stupid.

Agree- the area is just not set up for a mass evacuation effort. And even though the worst of the inland flooding was in NC, the storm affected a pretty wide area, making the the answer of where to evacuate to less obvious.

I still don't know if OP is satisfied with the number of deaths.
