This is actually a really phenomenal idea!

It's been a month since school started. I was hoping it was temporary but she's still wearing it. I'm a total jerk if I say something and nothing would change, but I can't be the only one out there who would be bothered by this?

No you're not, you're just a selfish jerk who hates people that mask. Do you also call them "sheep"?

She either may be immuno compromised or live with someone else who is.

I'm a teacher who has stage 4 cancer. You can't tell when you look at me. Getting covid means taking a break from my cancer meds, which is risky. There are all sorts of complications and vulnerabilities that may lead someone to mask.

Yes. Mind your own business. How do you know that she's not immunocompromised, or isn't caring for someone who is?

My K kid has 27 kids in class, every week 4-5 students have been absent do far for illness.

This is false; I was just there and nobody had masks on trains and buses. But herev on the other hand

Where do you live? Many many parts of asia (korea, japan, taiwan from my personal experience) are all heavy masking areas. Even before covid!

NP. I am 40 and have mild hearing loss. The pandemic was VERY hard when everyone was masked and customer service workers were behind those thick plastic partitions. I couldn’t understand a darn thing and it was frustrating for everyone involved.

So no, not everyone’s making it up and there are children with hearing issues as well. They just miss what the teacher is saying.

So a child with mild hearing loss could just... sit closer? Cool, great to have an easy solution.

Masking makes speech less clear. It’s about intelligibility not volume.

Presumably OP would have mentioned if her kid has hearing loss. It's likely the school has already accommodated kids with hearing loss, and teachers with medical issues that require a mask by not putting them together.

Not surprised at the responses but yeah, it’s ok to be bummed by this just like it’s ok to be kinda bummed if the teacher gets pregnant or something. It affects your kids experience at school. It’s obviously not ok to comment on either and there’s nothing you can do about it but can you be bummed? Certainly. Doesn’t make you a bad person.

What will you accomplish here? Are you trying to get her fired, because that isn't going to happen. She has every right to wear a mask in a classroom of kids. Covid is not "over " and you aren't aware of her risk factors. Try to understand how this impacts everyone. You wanted kids back in school, you are convinced this is all nothing, so here we are, back in school, but yeah, the teachers might be wearing a mask.

So is it about hearing loss or intelligibility? Or is it just easier to make up an excuse to further your anti-mask agenda?

Doesn't kind of though?
