My teenager stole and sold my ADHD meds. I have no idea what to do.

Have your kids been going to church from a young age? Have they attended Sunday school? Do they have a true sense of right from wrong? Do they have a solid moral core? This isn’t a one-off incident. This is a big parent fail and you are oblivious now that they are almost 16 years old? This is a far larger problem than your daughter is a thief and drug pusher. Get some therapy.

Where did she sell them, to whom, how did she find these interested buyers? Why did she think she needed the money? Also did she sell a whole month or just a week? Obviously both very bad but selling 7 pills seems to me not quite as bad as selling t30. Did she take any herself? How many? Why?

I’m not saying this to excuse what she did but the answers will help you figure out what kind of a problem you have here.

Plus, you must immediately contact the parents of each pupil who purchased these prescription-only pharmaceuticals, to inform them of the danger to their child.

I would not do this but if it turns out the she gave all the pills to one person who is effectively a real dealer or has a real problem, would really think hard about a way to turn that kid in or alert that kids parent. In some ways this seems more likely to me than a scenario where a girl suddenly has dozens of buyers for her dad’s meds.

She sold drugs for money. She is a "real dealer." It's a felony. She stole the drugs from her family. That' s a felony, too.

Her parents need to fall on her with both feet. Grounded, no phone no internet, no extra curriculars, no car, no friends, and confined to the house for 1 month. Immediate appointment with a family therapist or ASAP. Drug testing immediately and continued drug testing on a monthly basis for one year.

If she keeps it together, she can have her phone and extra curriculars back after 1 month. No "going out" with friends or going to friends' houses or car for six months.

None of this improves outcomes.

NP. No, do not do this. That provides evidence that can ruin your own child's life. Sorry, but no parent should be more concerned about other kids than their own kid.

We go to church every week. Strong morals. DD always tells her gay classmates that God hates f*gs, and she throws rocks at women who wear short skits. She's very close with the youth pastor, who has 1:1 counseling sessions with her on Friday nights. I have no idea where this liberal drug dealing came from!

The hospice RN said it is usually family members of the loved one that steal the drugs, not paid caregivers.

Huh, a suspect blamed someone else. Fascinating.

I’m not reading all this but I’m also on ADHD meds that I very much need to function and to do my work and I totally feel for you in this situation. I would be so, so upset on so many levels if my son did this.

Praying for you and hope all is resolved in a positive way.

For those questioning a lock box for medications at home, many of us bought them or learned about the need for them about 10 years ago when there was a story in the Post, I think, about a 14 year old who killed themselves impulsively with a parent’s prescription medication. The kid wasn’t depressed but had something happen and acted in the moment. It was tragic and preventable. We bought a box and so did the parents of my kid’s friends, as we all talked about it.

I'm the PP. We never had any meds stolen from hospice workers or family members. I'm not sure why you are blaming an RN.
